Jim’s Burros resides inside an unassuming little building off Ocotillo Rd. a mile or two west of Ironwood. There is no lack of Mexican food in the Queen Creek area for sure and while Jim’s doesn’t necessarily scream “haute cuisine” to passersby, it’s worth a visit. It’s no secret among foodies that dive-y little local restaurants often are hiding the best food–and Jim’s is no exception.
Jim’s Burros has a lot of things going for it. They serve American and Mexican breakfast offerings, all day, in addition to a decent-sized menu of Mexican and American favorites. Pricing is very reasonable. For example, a short stack of pancakes is merely $2.00. Homestyle french toast is $2.50. A burrito is somewhere between $4 and $5 dollars. The establishment is clean, including the spotless restroom. Outdoor seating is available to those willing to brave the heat or the traffic sounds on Ocotillo. The inside is very small but arranged well and the decor is kitchsy but fun. The staff is friendly and professional.
The food was tasty and enjoyed by all–for kids you can’t go wrong with this style of pancakes and french toast. Portion sizes are moderate–the french toast plate was a bit small (two slices of Wonder-bread style bread). I personally found my machaca, egg, potato and cheese burrito to be a bit light on egg and meat and heavy on the heat–for my personal taste. Another member of my party devoured his burrito and more than half of mine. This however does not dissuade me from planning a return trip to sample some of the other menu items.
