Tucked away next to the Redmond Road Exit is one of the Moore family’s favorite parks- Dupree Park- a quiet place to relax while the kids play. Though it is located on busy Redmond Road, the playground area is fenced so little children are dissuaded from hitting the road. There are many large shade trees around the play area and several pavilions and benches so parents can relax, enjoy the company of other adults, and bask in the slower pace that an outing to the park seems to bring to life.
Behind the play area which has one swingset and three slide/jungle gyms, Dupree Park boasts 168 acre area complete with ball fields, a 1.3 mile walking trail, a fishing lake with docks, a disc golf course, and a dog park. As with any relevant organization, Jacksonville Parks and Recreation is constantly improving their facilities. According to Kevin House, the maintenance manager for Jacksonville Parks and Recreation, one such improvement for Dupree Park is an exit ramp for the urban canoe trail that begins at Reed’s Bridge in Jacksonville. Fridays and Sunday afternoons seem to be the park’s busiest days, but even then, it is a great park to take the kids to for a variety of activities. One can easily spend an hour or so simply playing on the playground.
For another great park, check out Burns Park too!
