Today we will be speaking with erotic vampire author, Katie Salidas. She is the author of House of Immortal Pleasures, a short story that I will be reviewing after this.
Here is a summary of the book:
Blindfolded and kidnapped, Daphne is whisked away to the famed, House of Immortal Pleasures, a Vampire-run Brothel in Pahrump, Nevada.
Sometimes the only way to mend a broken heart is to get back in the saddle. At least that is how Daphne’s friends see it. And since Daphne isn’t showing any signs of letting that happen, they take it into their own hands. With a few shots of liquid courage, a pat on the ass, and a donated gold card, Daphne is unwillingly sent into fantasy room 123 to meet her creature of the night, Connor.
It’s Connor’s job to seduce and entice Daphne to try all the expensive, sexual services on the menu. And he is prepared to do just that, until he peers into her mind and sees the damage done by her broken heart. After learning of her past pain, Connor’s plans change. No more is this a game of seduction to pad the pockets of the brothel owner. Connor decides to lavish Daphne with real attention and affection. Something she desperately needs. He will heal her heart the only way he can, by showing her she is beautiful, desirable, and sexy.
So, Katie, let’s start at the beginning, ” How old were you when you decided to write vampire books and which one inspired you?
The first vampire book I read was LJ Smith’s Vampire Diaries series. It was back in 91, I was about 10 years old and I just fell in love with the characters. I am so happy to see now that it has been turned into a TV series. I admit I’m a fan of the show too even though it doesn’t really follow the books. I like what they’ve done with the characters. After that I devoured the Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice.
So, when did you decide to make writing your career and was vampires your first choice?
I’ve always loved to write and I have always loved vampires. It was just a natural thing to make up my own stories about them. When I was 14 I wrote my first vampire story. Sadly though I lost all of the pages I’d written during my move to Las Vegas. It might have made a good YA book back then. Alas, it wasn’t meant to be. Immortalis Carpe Noctem is the second full story I’d ever attempted about vampires and since then I’ve found more and more inspiration to keep writing about those creatures of the night.
That sounds great! So where do you find the inspiration for your books?
A lot of my ideas come from asking questions. For example, in Immortalis, I really wanted to explore the change. What would it really be like to turn into a vampire? What hardships would the main character have to overcome? That is what really drove me to complete the novel. As I answered each question, more popped into my head.
In House of Immortal Pleasures, I wanted to know if vampires could be “good guys” and actually help someone. Connor is a vampire but he is more human than some real humans. He has a soul and wants to redeem himself. Since it’s an erotic romance I asked myself, how could he take his position and heal Daphne’s broken heart.
To me, each story dictates how long it should be. I don’t set out to write a specific length. The idea comes and I just stop writing when it has reached a satisfying conclusion. House of Immortal Pleasures was a fun idea that came to me from an idea. I think I was listening to a song and the words” Sexual Healing” struck me. From there the muse just started talking. I found my setting, Pahrump Nevada, known for having brothels, and then my characters Daphne and Connor were born. I really had a lot of fun writing it.
Do you have any more plans for House of Immortal Pleasures?
I do have plans on revisiting House of Immortal Pleasures. I’m not done with Daphne and Connor yet. =)
