Today we are doing an interview with erotic vampire author Katie Salidas. She is the author of Halloween themed book, Halloween Fantasies. Here is a clip of her book just to give you a bite of how hot this book is:
Touted as the sexiest party of the year, the annual Halloween Fantasy Ball is the one place a girl can let loose and succumb to her wildest fantasies.
Disguised as a sexy vampire huntress, Sasha captures the attention of Dante, a real life creature of the night. For Sasha, meeting bona-fide vampire is enough to fulfill one of her life long fantasies. She’s ready to go home a happy woman.
But Dante has other plans. It is after all, a night of fantasies, and he has a few of his own to share.
So, Katie, thanks for taking time to talk to me today. I know that you have to be excited about the Halloween season since it is your favorite. Your book, Halloween Fantasies has come out at the perfect time for the holiday season. So, here we go:
Q: So, Katie this is the second book that I have read of yours. The first was House of Immortal Pleasures and I really enjoyed it. As we have discussed before I am more of a mystery and action fan and not really a huge erotic romance reader. When doing interviews I have only chosen to read from less than half a dozen erotic stories. It may be my southern staunch upbringing. I personally choose to use my imagination rather than the writer “show” me. Do you find that there are other readers like me?
A: Sure, authors live by the mantra “show” don’t tell, but really, we can only go so far with that. It’s our job to give you the direction, the bones of the story. We describe the characters and what they are doing in a particular scene, but to truly enjoy reading an erotic story you, the reader, should want to become the main character. We can describe everything to a finite detail but to make that leap from reading to becoming takes the readers imagination.
Q: I like your philosophy. I tend to blush and flip the pages really fast but I find your books very well written. Why do you think erotic romance is such a big hit now? Is it comparable to Harlequin romances?
A:I think nowadays there are less taboos to writing erotica. With more freedom comes more descriptive and experimental stories. Authors can have more fun with the writing and in turn the readers can have more fun reading.
Q: Why did you choose to write erotic novella’s
A: Honestly, I never set out to specifically write an erotica novella. I’m a pantser. I let the muse take me where she will. She must have been feeling frisky because that’s what I was inspired to write. =)
Q. I am sorry for specific questions in regards to they types of books you write. I hope that you know that I am just curious. I am also curious about what books you plan on for the future?
A: My short stories are always left open-ended. I do that on purpose to gauge reader interest. I’ve had an overwhelmingly positive response on House of Immortal Pleasures so there will definitely be a sequel. Halloween Fantasies is beginning to show promise as well so I may have a return of Dante and Sasha in another holiday-themed story. Perhaps Valentine’s Day.
Other than that, I have more work to do on my Immortalis series. I am getting ready to put out Book 2 in the series, Hunters & Prey. It should be out in print in January 2011.
Q. I loved House of Immortal Pleasures and really liked the characters. They jumped off the page and pulled me into the story. So, will there be a continuation of that story? By the way I noticed that you referenced it in this one.
A: Yes, I’ve already started work on that one. Daphne and Connor will return for another installment.
Q: Where can you be found if fans are looking to buy your books or get in touch with you?
I’m addicted to social networking sites so I can easily be found. Please feel free to friend me and say Hi!
