Celebrating its 41st year, the annual San Francisco Pride Celebration & Parade is upon us once again. “In Pride We Trust” is the 2011 theme as this year’s event will focus on LGBT youth and taking a stand against bullying.
The SF Pride Celebration will be held over the weekend of June 25 and 26, in downtown San Francisco in Civic Center at the foot of San Francisco’s historic City Hall where Harvey Milk once stood and addressed Pride-goers more than thirty years ago.
With over 200 parade contingents, 300 exhibitors, and 19 stages and venues, the San Francisco LGBT Pride Celebration and Parade is the largest LGBT gathering in the nation.
Serving as celebrity grand marshal will be Chaz Bono: author, LGBT rights advocate and the only child of famed entertainers Sonny and Cher. Chaz has written two books, with his third due out this May. Transition is his groundbreaking and candid account of a forty-year struggle to match his gender identity with his physical body and his transformation from female to male.
Celebrities riding in the parade include Actress Olympia Dukakis, Yigit Pura from Bravo’s Top Chef: Just Desserts, Academy Award screenwriter Dustin Lance Black (MILK), and actor Jeremy Ray Valdez (La Mission).
The Sunday parade begins at 10 AM. Be there early if you want to see, uh, the floats. The parade will move along Market Street and wrap up around 6:30-ish. Here is a map to help you along with logistics. Main stage talent includes: Cast members from A.C.T.’s world-premiere production of Armistead Maupin’s Tales of the City, CHEER SF, Stiletto Ghetto, Linda Perry/Deep Dark Robot, Taxi Doll, Sister Crayon, RWCB and Sandra Bernhard.
Now let’s talk after parties and where to go.
