As Chicago educators begin to look ahead toward the upcoming school year, gone are the days when they had to rely on using a pencil to enter student grades into a notebook. iPads and other mobile technologies are the “wave of the future” in academics and teachers are now able to use iGrade for Teacher by Zysco in order to keep track of student grades, attendance, and even notes. While iPhone users will find this app to really help in organizing their student records, the display on the iPad is even more useful in the classroom.
Teachers have a choice of either inputting their student names and information manually or importing from a list using “copy and paste” into the program. It includes a detailed student information section, including parent/guardian contact information.
In addition, it allows the educator to keep notes on each student related to behavior or academic progress as desired. iGrade for Teacher allows the user to create groups based on grade level, categories of their assignments, and/or subjects/periods that are taught during the academic day.
Another highly useful feature is attendance taking, which is extremely easy with iGrade for Teacher. The teacher views a list of students and is able to tap on the student picture (if they have chosen to upload pictures – another great and useful feature) and bring up the attendance section where a student can easily be marked absent, present, or even tardy if desired.
In iGrade for Teacher, the teacher is easily able to incorporate their tests, quizzes, homework, projects, and even extra credit. The program gives the option of using weighted categories, percentages, or even letter grades (A-F).
A few other features included with iGrade for Teacher include:
- Custom weighting of grades and scores.
- The ability to easily enter new groups, subjects, or even categories.
- Ability to duplicate assignments for different classes without having to re-input information.
- The ability to send a group e-mail to students and/or parents.
The one item that would be useful on this program would be password protection in order to ensure others cannot open and view sensitive student information. Other than this minor issue, iGrade for Teacher contains highly useful and convenient tools that will help the Chicago educator streamline his/her classroom.
