Tonight’s episode of How I Met Your Mother was “Landmarks” at 8PM on CBS 2 in Queens. As the future of one building hung in the balance, so did a relationship. Would either be saved or were they both destined to fail from the beginning?
The issue of the Arcadian left the group divided: Marshall, Lily, Ted, and Zoey against Barney. Barney wasn’t happy that Ted sided with Zoey, but Ted thought she could be his future wife. (Considering it was revealed earlier this season that they break up, it’s not a stretch to think that Ted’s going to be switching sides.) In fact, factoring in the fact that Arthur said he would fire Barney as well as Ted if Ted said the Arcadian should be a landmark at the board meeting, all signs pointed to a break-up coming in this episode. Barney wasn’t going to let himself get fired, and Ted became stuck in the middle.
Robin used Angry Birds to try to help Ted out, by showing him the possible outcomes of his responses at the meeting. All scenarios pointed to Ted and Zoey breaking up, and Robin said he should just concentrate on his career. After a very odd dream, Ted realized he had to vote against the Arcadian and called Zoey. They met up where they first saw each other outside the hotel, and though she thought everything’s good, it seemed obvious he had already made his decision.
At the meeting, he said the Arcadian shouldn’t be a landmark, but Zoey stood up and played a recording of him talking for the Arcadian and against GNB. And now it’s obvious why when he talked about Zoey in the future, it seemed like things ended on a bad note. It looked like Ted and Barney would be out of jobs and the Arcadian would be left standing. While the others focused on buying a bar since their lives were falling apart, Lily came up with a plan, and they needed Arthur.
The committee had decided to declare it a landmark until the lion’s head disappeared (it ended up in Barney’s bedroom). Ted followed Zoey out, but that was the end of their relationship. Once it was revealed that she wasn’t Ted’s future wife, it became a waiting game for when she would leave, and the time finally came, paving the way for the next storyline: Ted finally meeting his wife.
Tune in to CBS 2 in Queens at 8PM next Monday for the season finale of How I Met Your Mother, “Challenge Accepted.” The identity of either the bride or groom at the wedding in the future will be revealed. Who do you think will be getting married?
