PARSONS, Tennessee (Isabelle Zehnder reporting) — Concerns were raised this week that the investigation into the abduction of Darden, Tennessee nursing student, Holly Bobo, had turned cold and that the TBI had stopped their investigation.
According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the lead agency working the case, nothing could be further from the truth. TBI officials said this week that they’ve never slowed down or stopped their investigation.
In fact, TBI spokeswoman Kristin Helm said in an email last week that the same agents who were initially assigned to the case are still actively working the case today.
According to TBI officials, including TBI Criminal Investigation Division Special Agent In Charge, John Mehr, they continue to receive and investigate tips daily, perform on-the-ground searches conducted by law enforcement officials weekly, and have brought in a new team of TBI investigators from across the state to look at the investigation with “fresh eyes,” something commonly done in missing persons’ cases that aren’t quickly solved.
Special Agent Mehr said agents still occupy a command post at the National Guard Armory in Parsons.
According to Helm it was misreported that no more leads are coming in Holly’s case. “TBI agents have never said that ‘there are no more leads’,” Helm said.
Mehr said authorities still receive and follow tips daily. He said in an email last Friday, “The TBI, FBI, U.S. Marshal Service, Tennessee Department of Homeland Security, and Decatur County Sheriff’s Office are working together every day on the case and we have other agencies assisting when they are called upon.”
One concerned local, who wishes to remain anonymous, said, “Deceptive and misleading headlines and things people write online – the gossip and the rumors – are really taking a toll on Holly’s family and community. They’ve done nothing but add insult to injury.
“Even the TBI said all of this is hurting their investigation,” he said. “Really, all we want is Holly home.”
“I would think other locals would be savvy enough to realize what’s happening here and how hard the TBI and other agencies are working on this case,” another local said. “Come on, people, it’s time to stop the rumor mill, stop believing people who don’t know what they’re talking about, and start supporting the people who can do something to actually help bring Holly home – law enforcement.
“Come on now! They have just about everyone on this case. What more do people want? This isn’t TV folks. Cases aren’t solved in an hour. This is real life – Holly is a real person – her family is hurting and how dare people come along who know nothing and act like they know everything. I’m sorry, this doesn’t sound very Christian-like of me but I’ve held back for a long time and I just have to speak my mind.”
Note: Some of the locals who contributed to this article indicated they wanted to do so anonymously out of concern for their safety and the safety of their families. Their requests have been respected.
