Requirements to compete in the bodybuilding championship
- All contenders must be drug-free and must pass a polygraph “lie detector” test in order to participate.
- No contestant can test positive for any banned substance on the NGA listing:
- Anabolic Steriods
- Growth Hormones (Pharmaceutical hGH, HCG and other related compounds)
- Prescription Diuretics and any other prescription weight-loss substances used for bodybuilding purposes, even when physician-prescribed
- Prescription PsychomotorStimulants, such as Amphetamines
- Chemical/Drugs For The Purpose Of Deceiving Or Passing The Polygraph Test
- Any Illegal Or Illicit Bodybuilding Drug Or Substance
- Any FDA And IOC Banned Substance
- Muscle Implants
All foods and all supplements not listed are allowed, but caution is needed when using DHEA and all other hormone precursors because these substances can increase the T/E ratio in excess of the 6:1 limit or produce the presence of nandrolone or any other banned substance in the urine.
A new FDA-approved bodybuilding “substance”
One of the newest supplements used by bodybuilders and other athletes is a product called Alkalete, patented and produced by Yoli, Inc. Alkalete is an FDA-approved blend of potassium hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and calcium carbonate. It’s not the ingredients that make Alkalete special, but the manner in which they are bound together with calcium acting as the carrier to ensure that the potassium and magnesium make it safely through the stomach acid so that they can be absorbed into the blood. This doesn’t sound very interesting until you learn how your body uses Alkalete.
Very simply, the powerful minerals in Alkalete can neutralize the excess acid in the body and be available to quickly clear out the lactic acid that is produced in the muscles during physical activity. This means increased endurance, so you’re lifting longer before you reach the lactate threshold, and ultimately increased strength. A side bonus to supplementing with Alkalete is a huge decrease in muscle soreness, because this, too, is caused by a buildup of lactic acid which now doesn’t have to occur at all when the right alkalizing minerals are available in the body.
At the 2011 Mr. & Ms. Natural Philadelphia Bodybuilding & Figure Champion, there will be a number of sponsors and vendors showing their products and services to the public. This will be the first year that Alkalete will be featured. If you’re interested in learning more, come to the Yoli table at the event of visit: www.yoli.com for more information.
