Harold Camping, the man that predicted the Rapture for 6:00pm on May 21st has recently come out and said he wasn’t wrong. Yes, you read that correctly, apparently his prediction came true and we all just failed to notice. He claims it is because the Rapture was a “spiritual” begining to the end and not a physical one, so all that talk of planet wide earthquakes and 200 million souls being taken to Heaven, and the post-Apocolyptic world we were supposed to live in for five months … he wants you to forget he ever said it. October 21st is the new date for the end of the world, and Camping had this to say about it:
“Were not changing a date at all; we’re just learning that we have to be a little more spiritual about this. But on Oct. 21, the world will be destroyed. It won’t be five months of destruction. It will come at once. We don’t need to talk about it anymore. The world has been warned – my it has been warned. We have done our share and the media picked it up. The world has been warned that it is under judgment.” – The San Fransico Chronicle
Now personally I do not like to give this man any more media attention than he already has, but the truth about the man who calls himself “a servant of the Lord” needs to come to light.
- Harold Camping wrongly predicted that the end of the wolrd would occur in September of 1994.
- Harold Camping has no training in the study of the Bible (he studied Civil Engineering at UC Berkley), and yet he calls himself a ‘Bible Scholar’ because he has spent the last 50 years reading the Bible his way.
- Camping doesn’t like theologians/Bible Scholars, he claims that he found it much more efficiant to study the Bible himself.
- Camping’s degree and his predictions prove one thing, he enjoys math. I tried to read and understand the formula for why he picked the end of the world, and as someone without a formal training in math, I can not tell you if his math is flawed; but as someone with a formal education in religion, I can tell you that his dates probably are. (See last article.)
Now I am not saying that Camping, nor anyone else, must have formal training in religion in order to read, study, and understand the Bible (or any religious text for that mater), but if you are going to claim to “know exactly” what something is saying, you should. This man has achieved hundreds of millions of dollars based on the fact that he states his own personal religious beliefs as fact. He has caused countless people hardship and suffering based solely on his own personal numerology. He has ruined the lives of people who put their faith into someone who claims to be doing God’s work.
Harold Camping needs to be stopped; the news needs to stop interviewing him, his predictions need to stop being published, and the truth about the man needs to come out. Harold Camping is not a prophet, he is a man, a man who has time after time been proven wrong.
