Here’s the scene; I’m standing in a stationary store, staring at Disney Princess birthday invitations. The invitations are pink and covered with glitter. The princesses have bows on their dresses and rhinestones on their tiaras. Standing there I’m thinking ‘I’m too old for theses invitations but….I really really want them!’…..Well it’s been awhile since I’ve sent out birthday invitations (though that day in the stationary store wasn’t as long ago as you might think) or received one for that matter. These days an invite to a party is dispensed via text message or ‘Facebook events’, usually with three hours’ notice. Unless you’re my friend Wesley who broke Gemini rule #248 (always be spontaneous) by actually planning his 33rd shindig a month in advance. This is a probably because everyone we know has such incredibly busy lives it’s a wonder we have time to breathe, let alone party, but his forethought has provided me with the opportunity to tell you about a truly wonderful place, especially if it’s your birthday! Nirvana on Castro Street is aptly named. Their private room (which can be reserved for no extra charge) is like the parlor room of a palace; all plush couches and throw pillows bathed in burgundy and gold. As you sit in this sea of tranquility, soaking up the atmosphere, you are continually attended to by a member of Nirvana’s excellent staff. Julian is a customer service rock star; drinks and appetizers kept reappearing as if we were in the dining hall at Hogwarts. Service, Service, Service, I can’t emphasize this enough and Nirvana has it in spades. In addition to the amazing room, attentive staff, and excellent dishes, at the end of the night Wesley was treated to a special birthday surprise! This is a perfect place for you and your friends gather; no matter what the occasion!
Not as organized as Wesley? Tend to plan your events within days as opposed to months? Check out Bliss bar on 24th Street. The Oracle known as Yelp lists Bliss as the ideal place for your impromptu party and while they do accept reservations don’t expect too much in this department; making reservations at this place can be a bit like renewing your driver’s license at the DMV. Much better to just drop in. Once you get there Bilss is a delightful study in contrasts; its dual decor of Noe Valley wine bar meets Haight Street hang out means everyone will be comfortable making it an ideal pre-game/meet-up/date spot; But if you really want to get the party started, you know where to go (Castro) :)
