You become an entrepreneur if your not already one; and the good news is that you likely already have it in you but you just need to bring it out. Although young and old entrepreneurs can initiate, plan, build, and market an enterprise from anywhere in the world; there is something special about doing it in Silicon Valley and today. San Jose in particular is home to International organizations like GlobalGoodGroup.com and firms to help consult on technology and marketing needs such as GlobalGoodMedia.com. Some of the other beneficial factors of this region are the human capital, favorable local government, deep financial resources, inspiring entrepreneurial environment, and cutting edge technology innovation.
Location, Location, Location
The economies of the Bay area revolve around major firms that started here or have headquarters here whether that be Google and Ebay, Paypal, or other major players like Cisco and Intel. Many of which bring fast growing tax and sales capital back in to the local governments to continue breathing life into Silicon Valley. SJC, San Jose in particular has become one of the most business friendly cities in the world in a diverse varierty of ways all the way from cultural acceptance to the architecture of many buildings, constant networking and more ; but most particularly is the local government’s favorable stance on business. The official government website for San Jose (http://www.sanjoseca.gov/business.asp ) which is a great resource and links out to everything from Foreign trade zones, Small Business Ambassador programs, all the way to even including guides to starting your own business.
Silicon Valley is usually a starting place for many firms that want to grow globally. Many similar firms exist that are available to partner with for cross promotion and to share the costs of major marketing campaigns with. Few places are easier than in Silicon Valley to align with other businesses that share similar business models whom would like to partner resources in supply chain and logistics, technology R&D, management, marketing, logistics and distribution, and virtually all other important business functions at some level. A great deal of service providers are available to help managers outsource non core competencies and fine tune their businesses, keep costs down, and protect their agility and time to market with great precision.
Human Capital, Some of The Best
Silicon Valley, the Northern California area associated with some of the worlds mega corporations, multi nationals, international brands, and more… is a hot bed for cutting edge technology innovation and a natural incubator for startups and small businesses. One of the best locational advantages is the human capital that exists here… Its all about the people.
One of the bay area’s major news portal for Silicon Valley news, MercuryNews.com ( it is distributed locally as a newspaper also ) has an article titled: “Ex-Googlers penetrating Silicon Valley start up hierarchy” which discusses how amazing human capital resources such as those ex-employees of Google are spread out all throughout the valley. This is good news for those looking to start their own firm, join an existing startup or small business, or climb the corporate ladder at their favorite company operating in the bay area. The fact is successful and experienced people are available to work and network with at a growing number of locations and a diverse array of firms up here in California.
An excerpt of the Mercury News article: “I just really like to build things,’Siroker said. ‘Going to Google, I really wanted to learn the skills that would make me a successful entrepreneur on my own.’ WeatherBill, whose chief technical officer, Siraj Khaliq, also came from Google, aims to build a highly profitable business that will also help the world’s farmers cope with climate change “ Therefore, creative and powerful entrepreneurs who have been around some of the world’s brightest people are floating around the valley just looking to align with the right partners and capital sources to make dreams materialize in exponential global ways.
Several digital resources exist to connect Silicon Valley entrepreneurs as well as others around the world, to capital resources such as Angel investors and Venture Capitalists. Several social networks are designed around this model completely, such as that of: GoBigNetwork.com which allows start up owners and employees to meet investors and get funded as well as providing content about creating a great business plan and building / establishing solid business credit. Though many of these tools need not be used from Silicon Valley directly, the ability to physically connect with individuals from these digital platforms and portals is unrivaled within this industry and only comparable to other major world business destinations such as New York, London, and Hong Kong.
Most start ups are going to need some initial technology to get up and running and the digital resources available today are mind blowing. From powerful free hosted exchange email and document editing made possible by the Free Google Apps to free computer to computer video chatting provided and connected through Skype, the resources are plentiful to run a lean, mean, global operation with low capital reserves and a boot strap budget and mindset. The difference is that being in Silicon Valley you have must more intimate access to employees, interns, and management at the firms producing some of these tier 1 online solutions to the point where you can help shape the future of given products or potentially consult with the technology firm making it to customize it to your needs.
Can you say Cash? Because the investors in Silicon Valley have the connections, positions of power, and financial reserves to say that and a whole lot more when it comes to making big moves and funding some of the world’s most ambitious opportunities and ideas. The major venture capital firms are spread out over the entire Valley; however there are several hot zones where the movers and shakers cluster together. One such region that is famous in the valley is that of Sand Hill Road. There are several venture capital firms there, two examples are a few offices at the Sand Hill center ( Highland Capital Partners [ HCP.COM ] and Draper Fisher Jervetson [ DFJ.COM ] ) but plenty more exist. The famous Sand Hill Road area is located right in the heart of Stanford University, a strategic location that puts capital right next to some of the World’s most powerful leaders and innovators either attending or visiting the world famous and highly respected University.
Those looking for lesser amounts of capital and more focused on building their proof of concept products or perfecting their business model can apply to start or grow their dream business from a local business incubator chain such as Play and Play [ http://www.plugandplaytechcenter.com/ ] which is responsible for major brands and has access to over 150 Venture Capital firms.
While entrepreneurs can become successful from anywhere in the world, Silicon Valley is the bes place to start off grounds as it has access to some of the worlds best people, biggest funding sources, and an innovative culture that just cant be beat.
