‘Game of Thrones’ on HBO had many moments that still linger even though the show is over for the season. But what about those moments that were not seen on the fictional show, but still shocked and titillated because of the show?
Top 10 moments from season 1
Right before the show started, a woman by the name of Ginia Bellafante, wrote a review, and then the world of geek girls went on a rampage because Ms. Bellafante gave a generalization of ‘Game of Thrones’ that it was a males only show and that including sex in the show was a way to bring the gentler sex into this otherwise brutal world. Yes that went over well with the geek girl community. In one fell swoop Ms. Bellafante became the most hated woman during the first few weeks of the show.
Sex for sex sakes seems to have brought out quite a bit of people not understanding what ‘Game of Thrones’ is all about. In this moment, ew.com seems to agree with Bellafante that sex would bring the newbie to the show, not the actual story. This too did not sit well with people because if you read the book sex is not the drive or focus. The story is.
In an unprecedented move, HBO gave the ok for a season 2, right after the success of episode 1. That move got people excited especially the readers of the book, who are hoping that this tradition will continue on as there are several books in the series.
Ginia Bellafante tries to get people to understand her position yet she still didn’t get that what she did was alienate a group of women who as a force came after her hard. She tried to explain away the “boy fiction” but it really was too late for anyone to take her seriously.
‘Game of Thrones’ produced some strong emotions from too much sex to racism. It is interesting to see that a few episodes in, people from around the world chimed in and some took offense to how the fictional people, the Dothraki were potrayed.
Episode 2 had lots of people up in arms. This is when Lady the dire wolf was killed by Ned Stark, and people took to the internet to voice their outrage over such a noble animal being killed. Keep in mind no one really got upset over Bran being pushed out of a window, which goes to show that people’s priorities were a tad screwed. Then there was the man who got violent over an argument with his cousin over who would win the Throne.
After Ned’s beheading the non-book readers didn’t know it was happening and the reaction was shock and dismay, and quite a few people refusing to watch the show. The book readers of course knew what was going to happen though most threw their book across the room, but kept on reading.
Probably the craziest moment not shown on the TV show was when Sean Bean was in a bar fight, cut and yet refused the hospital. It was almost as if it were planned.
There you have it, a list of moments that showcased the season as a whole that were not even on the show.
