During the 2010 Romantic Times Convention in Columbus, Ohio I had the opportunity to take a writing workshop with some pretty impressive instructors. This included Bobbi Smith, Emily Bryan, Stacey Kade, Jade Lee, and Linnea Sinclair. I was very impressed with Linnea Sinclair’s techniques and found that she has one of the most wonderful personalities that I’ve had the pleasure of encountering. Moreover, I was fascinated by her genre: science fiction romance. What an incredible genre! I recently had to opportunity to read Gabriel’s Ghost, the first installment of Sinclair’s Dock Five Universe series and I have to say, I was completely enchanted by this book. So much so that I purchased every title written by Sinclair after finishing Gabriel’s Ghost!
In this sizzling stellar romance readers are introduced to Chasidah (Chaz) Bergen, former pilot of the Sixth Fleet, who is wrongfully accused of a string of murders and sentenced to life on Moabar, a penal colony that’s elements and wildlife are so harsh prisoners are lucky if they last three days. But after being rescued by Sully (Gabriel Ross Sullivan), a mercenary and smuggler who was reportedly dead, Chaz has even bigger problems to worry about. Not only is someone kidnapping Takan women and using them to breed Jukors (a supposedly distinct creature that is near impossible to slay and whose singular purpose is to kill), but Takan men who believe humans are responsible for the Jukor breeding are raping and killing human women. Chaz must face numerous battles, including fighting for her freedom, discovering who is behind the Jukor breeding, finding and destroying the Jukor gen-lab, assuring the crew that Ren (a blind Stolorth) is friend not foe, and proving her innocence to her brother Thad. But these battles seem trivial to the greatest battle of all: battling her feelings for Sully, the criminal she once fought tooth and nail who has become her saving grace. All of life is a risk, but which risks will Chaz be willing to take?
With steamy love scenes, incredible world building, compelling characters, and tantalizing plot, Gabriel’s Ghost is one of the most enthralling books that I have ever had the satisfaction of reading. Linnea Sinclair’s style is sublime, bringing characters and worlds to life in a way that no other author could accomplish. Sinclair is by far one of the most creative and talented authors that I have encountered. Gabriel’s Ghost quickly becomes like an addiction, you tell yourself “just one more page and then I’ll go to bed” but you find yourself turning page after page and reading chapter after chapter before you literally have to force yourself to put it down hours after you stated “just one more page.” As previously stated, I loved this book so much I decided to purchase every Linnea Sinclair book on the market.
I highly recommend this book to readers of all genres. Even if you are not a fan of science fiction, I guarantee that you will be captivated by Gabriel’s Ghost. Also, viewers who love all of the Star Trek series will be thrilled upon reading this book. With an incredibly well written plot Gabriel’s Ghost will mesmerize readers of all walks of life.
