San Diego-based Moms in Business Unite (MIBU) successfully took its two-year-old conference on the road last week, much to the delight of the nearly 100 women who attended the inspiring event in Atlanta on May 19. With one 2011 conference in the books, their first outside America’s Finest City, organizers now set their sights on the second of five scheduled this year, the third annual San Diego conference, on August 3. Inaugural events will also take place in Denver (September 21), Boston (October 12) and Detroit (October 19).
“It was quite a challenge to produce a conference in a city thousands of miles away from our home base, but we had plenty of help on the ground in Atlanta, and that’s what made us successful,” said MIBU President Randa Cote, who co-hosted the event with Cristen Lebsack, MIBU VP, Finance & Operations. “Everything about the day exceeded our expectations, from the number of people who were there and how energized they were to the amazing speakers and panelists.”
In addition to the keynote presentation from Maria Bailey of BSM Media, the foremost authority on marketing to moms, the conference featured breakout sessions, a luncheon/panel discussion aired live on MomTV.com, resource marketplace and Inventor Showcase. Attendees voted for the Best New Product from those showcased by the inventors participating in the latter activity and the winner was The Highchair Organizer, created by Abraxas Abrams-Pickens.
Conference organizers stepped up their social media activity by challenging attendees to “pay it forward” by tweeting some of the educational tidbits they received throughout the day. If you check out #MIBU on Twitter, you’ll see hundreds of tweets from May 19, including one from lindsay415, who received the Best Tweet award: “Am learning SO much at #MIBU conference! Can’t wait to go home and work on my website. Incredibly motivating event.”
The San Diego conference will feature all the elements the Atlanta attendees enjoyed…and more. Lorin Beller Blake of Big Fish Nation will give the keynote presentation and three session tracks will each include four content-rich presentations. The fourth track, Mastering the Millionaire Mindset, will feature Wendy Robbins of TLC’s “Homemade Millionaire,” who in addition to providing invaluable education to product developers, will be reviewing completed products…and making introductions to the Home Shopping Network for those that most catch her eye.
