Independence Day weekend, celebrating the 4th of July, is the cause of celebrations in communities around the Chicago area. In McHenry County, the biggest Fourth of July event is the five day Lakeside Festival in Crystal Lake, Illlinois. Following are the 2011 Independence Day celebrations in McHenry County, including Crystal Lake, Fox Lake, Cary, Fox River Grove, Spring Grove and Woodstock.

Crystal Lake: 2011 Parade – Fireworks and Lakeside Fest
Lakeside Fest – June 30 – July 1: The five day festival is held on the grounds of Dole Mansion, at Lakeside Legacy Arts Park in Crystal Lake. The largest 4th of July celebration in the Crystal Lake and McHenry area attracted more than 50,000 people in 2010. The festival features food from local vendors, carnival rides and. live music. Beverages will be available from beer, wine and tropical drink gardens. There is a $5 admission fee / $3 seniors (65+) / free for active military and children under 12. The 4th of July Parade down Dole Avenue to Lakeside Festival is at noon on Sunday. The Independence Day Fireworks show is at dusk on Sunday, July 3.
Fox Lake – Satuday, July 2 – The day long event in Fox Lake includes a parade at 10:00 a.m, boat parade at 6 p.m. and fireworks at dusk. The fireworks show can be seen throughout the area, but the best view is on the north and west shores of the lake or by boat. Hundreds of boats bob in the lake as the fireworks show takes place, and then the boats themselves form a type of parade, as they head for home after the parade. The Fireworks show is sponsored by the Fox Lake Chamber of Commerce.
Cary Fireworks Friday, July 1 – The Cary Fireworks, hosted by the Cary Park District, is at Lions Park on Frday. The event starts at 6:30 p.m., with bands and refreshments. The fireworks show begins at dusk.
Fox River Grove July 9
The fireworks celebration is on Saturday, July 9, at Picnic Grove Park. The event begins at 6:00 p.m, with bands anre rereshments. Fireworks begin at dusk.
Spring Grove July 4
The parade theme is “Home Town Heroes, ” with the Grand Marshall “Blue Star Mom.” The parade begins at noon in downtown Spring Grove. The fireworks are at dusk at Horse Park.
Woodstock July 4
Bring your blankets and lawn chairs out to Emricson Park and enjoy a Woodstock tradition – 4th of July Fireworks! The fireworks show is on Monday night, the 4th of July!
