Chapman– Is this your first time in New York? Or were you at the Back to the Banks contests last year? I guess it will be a few years before the next one because they got shut down for the bridge construction….
Louie Lopez– I missed the last Back to the Banks, I heard they were shut down.
Chapman– Yeah Back to the Banks is definitely an amazing event. When they open back up I’m sure it will be awesome. So who are you riding for these days?
Louie Lopez– Right now I skate for Flip,Volcom, Blow, Indy, Ricta, Mob, vitaminwater and Momentum Ride Skateshop.
Chapman-You ride for vitaminwater that’s rad. What’s your favorite flavor?
Louie Lopez– I like the essential.
Chapman– How is Flip? Is Geoff Rowley the TM?
Louie Lopez– Asher Schusterman is the TM at Flip.
Chapman– I always thought that Geoff Rowley runs the show over there.
Louie Lopez– Yeah he definitely plays a big part.
Chapman– Yeah who owns Flip?
Louie Lopez– Jeremy Fox.
Chapman– Yeah the Deathbox dude from back in the day. So what are your plans for your pro career?
Louie Lopez– I don’t know I guess whenever they decide. I really don’t know.
Chapman– That’s cool take it slow. Just enjoy skating. What do you like to skate the most?
Louie Lopez-I like skating tranny. I like parks with tranny in it.I like skating plazas and ledges, I dont know, everything.
Chapman-It seems like being able to skate everything is a prerequsite for the Flip team. I like how well rounded they are. There is even mini ramp in the Flip videos. What’s your latest mini ramp trick?
Louie Lopez-My latest mini ramp trick is front blunts, that’s what I have been working on lately.
Chapman-Some people say they are easier switch, have you tried them switch?
Louie Lopez-I don’t know I’ve never tried it switch.
Chapman-Have you skated the course yet? Do you have a line for the Maloof vitaminwater AM open?
Louie Lopez-Yeah I got to skate it a little bit yesterday but I don’t have a line I’m just gonna skate and have fun.
Chapman-Sounds like you like to enjoy your skating. Some people are just super focused on getting sponsored and they forget you’re supposed to have fun. Do you have any advice for all the kids trying to get sponsored?
Louie Lopez-My advice would be to not really rush it, just enjoy skating and have fun and see where it takes you.
Chapman-How did you get sponsored by Flip?
Louie Lopez– I got on Flip by Lance Mountain.
Chapman-So Lance is into the way you skate?
Louie Lopez– I guess so? I don’t know.
Chapman-Where did he see you skate?
Louie Lopez-Well I’m from L.A. he’s from L.A. and I would always see him at the parks.
Chapman-In the unstable world of skateboarding Flip is a solid sponsor to have. You really lucked out.
Louie Lopez-Yeah I am really lucky.
Chapman-How long have you ridden for Flip?
Louie Lopez-I rode for Flip since I was 11 or 12.
