One of the things Lake Erie is famous for is walleye so if you are a Clevelander who would like to celebrate the fish then head for the 31st annual Walleye Festival in Port Clinton, Ohio this weekend, a family-friendly event with activities for all ages.
Port Clinton Walleye Festival Being held at the Waterworks Park on Perry Street in Port Clinton (the “Walleye Capital of the World”), the free festival opens on Thursday, May 26 at 5 p.m. with carnival rides only. Most activities begin on Friday, May 27 at 5 p.m. and run through Monday, May 30.
There will be lots of free entertainment including performances by the Cripple Creek Cloggers, Nashville Crush, British Invasion (a Beatles tribute band), The Chapel (cloggers), Alan Seibert- The Guitar Guy, After Midnight and 14 year old country singer Connor Rose.
Other activities include martial arts demonstrations, a city wide garage sale, The Wooden Eagle Carving Shop demonstrations and a chance to meet the Walleye Festival mascot, Spike. Stratus Helicopter rides will also be available (weather permitting) with rides flying over Port Clinton and the Lake Erie shore. (Check for pricing).
The Grand Parade will take place on Saturday at 1 p.m. starting at Port Clinton High School. Another major event at the Walleye Festival is the Kids Fishing Derby at Derby Pond on Sunday, May 29. The Derby for kids under the age of 7 is from noon -1 p.m. The Derby for kids ages 7-9 is from 1 p.m – 2 p.m and the Derby for kids ages 10-12 is from 2 p.m. – 3 p.m. The Derby Awards will be given out at 3:30 p.m.
A first time event at the Walleye Festival is the Duck Pluck on Monday, May 30, a reverse raffle -style fundraiser event involving 500 rubber ducks. You can win gift certificates and other prizes from area businesses or a jackpot up to $1667 by plucking a duck from the hot tub. Duck Pluck tickets are $10 each.
The hours for the Port Clinton Walleye Festival are Thursday, May 26, 5 p.m.- 11 p.m, 5 p.m – 11 p.m. on Friday, May 27, 11 a.m. – 11 p.m on Saturday, May 28, 11 a. m. – 11 p.m. on Sunday, May 29 and 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Monday, May 30.
