Today I’m introducing a new feature to The Doors Examiner. Every Saturday I’m going to profile a Doors tribute band. Since the late 70’s and early 80’s Doors tributes have become a greater part of The Doors experience. Each Doors tribute band has a different philosophy and approach to the music. Some bands give their audiences album perfect renditions of the songs, some bands highlight the live aspect of a Doors show including improvisation of Jim Morrison’s poetry. Some bands utilize only the contemporary instruments available to The Doors, others use modern instrumentation to fill out The Doors sound. Some tribute bands have all the musician members dressed and appear as the member of The Doors they represent, still others have only a lead singer appear as Jim Morrison. While the members of The Doors still tour, for many fans a Doors tribute band is a the only way to experience The Doors.
The American Night is a Doors tribute band from the Seattle, Washington area of the U.S. While many Doors tribute bands choose a band name from among The Doors song titles, The American Night has chosen to the name of the band from among the poetry of Jim Morrison. This is not by chance, The American Night is out to deliver to their audiences a night of music, poetic drama, and some of the danger of the unexpected that was the best of The Doors.
The American Night is Nate Christian as Jim Morrison, Rob Simpson as Ray Manzarek, Milo Anderson as Robby Krieger, and Brett Rudy John Densmore. The American Night all use period instruments to recreate the sound of The Doors and dress and play the part of their real life counterparts.
The American Night has quite a following in the Seattle area and plays some of the bigger clubs like the Hard Rock Café, casino’s like the Tulalip Casino, music festivals, as well as private and corporate gigs.
