Only three performances remain of A Noise Within’s extraordinary production The Eccentricities of a Nightingale by Tennessee Williams. Deftly directed by Dámaso Rodriguez it is worth the price of admission to see Deborah Puette’s mesmerizing performance as Alma Winemiller an intelligent, sensitive early 20th Century Southern woman trapped in the confines of “genteel” society.
One of the best ensemble casts to date at ANW also includes Jason Dechert (John Buchanan), Jill Hill (Mrs. Winemiller) and Mitchell Edmonds (Rev. Winemiller) Christopher Callen (Mrs. Buchanan), Darby Bricker (Rosemary), Dave Kirkpatrick (Roger Doremus), David LM McIntyre (Vernon), Henry Todd Ostendorf (Salesman), Jacque Lynn Colton (Mrs. Bassett), and ensemble members Karla Menjivar, Stefanie Demetriades and Tameé Seidling.
Joel Daavd’s evocative set contributed to the powerful effect of this production, as did the Jim Taylor’s lighting design and Andrew Villaverde’s sound design.
Despite some play construction flaws which Williams’ was never able to resolve in this rewrite of an early work, this rarely performed piece is not to be missed.

As a prelude to ANW’s highly anticipated move to a permanent new home in Pasadena next fall for the its 20th anniversary season, the acclaimed classical repertory theatre company takes a final curtain call in its Glendale location by turning the spotlight on itself for a special “Retrospective” benefit on three dates, Friday, June 3, 7:30 pm, Saturday, June 4, 7:30 pm, and Sunday, June 5, 2 pm.
Performances highlight A Noise Within’s (ANW) 19-year history and its growth from a storefront operation to one of the region’s most acclaimed theatre companies, followed by a champagne and dessert reception featuring a silent auction and sale of signed photographs by leading photographer James Moore documenting A Noise Within’s early history. Proceeds benefit A Noise Within.
