Finding time between work and kids to spend quality time with your spouse can be difficult. In fact, this is a common complaint that arises when the subject of a stale relationship is brought up. But rest assured, there are ways to have those “date nights” with your spouse on a very limited budget.
- Dinner and a movie
This is a fashionable choice as a first date for couples who are starting a relationship. However, when marriage and children limit the financial budget for ‘couple recreation,’ going out for dinner and a movie can end up rather costly. A more economical option would be to make dinner, or have take out, and rent a movie. For those of you who are less than a novice in the kitchen, the Financial Readiness Program at Fort Bliss offers a free cooking class. The class offers great recipes that can be prepared on even the tightest of budgets. If you have children and can’t afford or find a sitter for the night, prepare your children’s dinner earlier than your own and have them have a ‘camp out’ in their room. A flashlight and some old bed sheets can provide a night off for mom and dad and both items are already located in most homes. As for the entertainment, grab a bottle of wine at your local grocery store, and stop for a movie on the way home. Some movie rental stores offer movies for as low as forty nine cents a night for older releases. Pick up a black and white, fill your hubby’s tummy with a yummy meal and snuggle up on the couch for quite evening.
- Have a romantic Picnic in the park
For those of you who have children, finding time to spend with your spouse can be a challenge between school and soccer games. If you have a park with a playground near your house, you can kill two birds with one stone by packing a lunch for your children and a romantic meal for yourself and your spouse. (Take food items that you can easily feed one another such as grapes or strawberries.) Have the kid first and then let them run off some energy while you and your hubby recharge your batteries. Take a blanket and if you’re a reader, take along a favorite novel or book of romantic poems. While your kids play out the day, you and your spouse can lie back in the sun and simply enjoy the moment alone.
So no more excuses ladies, if you want some romance sometimes you have to just create it yourself. It’s not wrong at all to take charge and show your spouse how romantic you can be. It might even inspire him to show you how romantic he can get as well.
