The Dancing with the Stars finalists appeared on Good Morning America on Wednesday, May 25, 2011. Dancing with the Stars aired its season finale on Tuesday night and Hines Ward was voted the winner . Hines Ward and pro partner Kym Johnson were followed by Kirstie Alley with Maksim Chmerkovsky and Chelsea Kane with Mark Ballas.
The stars were interviewed at Time Square in New York. It was a group that bubbled over with good cheer as they were congratulated for winning the tough competition. Hines Ward was declared the ultimate winner of the Mirror Ball Trophy, but they all were winners for making the top three.
There were scary moments in the season. The scariest was the injury suffered by Kym Johnson during practice with Hines Ward. Kym Johnson had a neck injury and was taken to the hospital, but was back on the dance floor three days later. Football player Hines Ward said he knew it was an injury that could have gone the other way and that he was just happy that she was dancing again. Of all the dancers, it was Hines Ward who best expressed the pure joy in dancing throughout the season and had the most fun, which was a big factor in his popularity. The celebrity dancers and pro dancers formed close friendships during the days and hours they spent together. They practiced together for 13 weeks, 5-6 hours a day for most days and many of the couples bond. They all expressed the feeling that they would miss the daily dancing. HInes Ward said, ‘” woke up in the morning and I looked forward to going to practice. It was fun.”
Maksim announced that he and Kirstie are not done dancing together. They will be dancing at an event on June 6, so they are extending their partnership for at least a couple of weeks. Kirstie’s Alley’s weight loss was one of the biggest stories of the season. Alley did not say how many pounds she lost, but did say her initial goal was to lose 40 pounds and she had a little more to go. Kirstie Alley wore the same dress on the season premiere and the season finale, but her dress had to be taken in a total of 38 inches. Alley announced that she is pondering a return to the big screen.

The pro dancers were asked if they would be returning for the next season, but they all responded that they would not know until late in the summer.
The hour long segment on Good Morning American ended, appropriately, with dance. Hines Wand, Kym Johnson, Kirstie Alley, Maksim , Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas each partners with a cast members of GMA and danced to the music of the new Jennifer Lopez song, ‘Get on the Floor.’
