One of the things that fascinate those abroad is how people in America rarely have a passport. After doing research, the conclusion is statistics have risen this year, but are in general couldn’t top 2007. The question is asked, why is this exactly?! With the economy in the state it is, it’s easy to see why. It’s not so easy to just travel overseas anymore. However, it also isn’t easy to travel domestically either. As Wichitans, the options of Dallas- Fort Worth, Oklahoma City, Austin, and all the other cities are at our disposal. Gas prices though are at an all-time high. It’s not so easy to just load up the car or the SUV and take those road trips. Most of us have to save up before even thinking of vacation time. With the cost of fuel prices, and hotel visits there are many websites that offer vacation packages going abroad at almost the same cost as it would be to go to Disney World for 4 days! Why go 1300 or so many miles when you can go 30,000, and see something that an individual would not see in the United States??! Emerge yourself in a whole new culture, see exotic things, and experience something altogether different than you would find here. You may be sitting there convinced “Okay! I’m going to save, and go to Paris in September!” Not so fast! Let’s review the very beginning of this article! There are certain things that are needed before foreign travel. Having a passport is the most important. As someone who has a passport, and who knows the procedures of doing so, it does not take much to apply for one, and to obtain it. A passport is an investment. This is something that will last you for years. Travel.state.gov/passport is worth reading, and understanding before applying, and getting your passport as rules, and regulations change. As many of you out there have traveled and know the routines, many of you have not. When an individual goes to any country it is essential to have that passport in your hand. Not only will they check the passport a dozen times stateside before taking off, but when arriving abroad the passport will be checked a dozen more. It is essentially your ticket to go anywhere in the world you choose to go, but it must be obtained, and up to date before you can even think about booking that flight to Paris! Every one of us has the adventure gene inside us. Adventuring in the United States and in Texas is obviously something we all can do at any given time we save and choose to do so. Go beyond yourself! See something new, and go international! The experiences and fun that will be had is well worth spending the money on that little blue book!
