When one dies … how do they get from Earth to the next destination?
We are living in the 21 Century. We can communicate almost instantaneously with sound and picture to anywhere on the planet. We are navigating space itself at speeds approaching 25,000 mph. Our scientists are able to clone life itself, measure distances in terms of millions of light-years.
We have technology to annihilate entire countries by the flick of a button; on the verge of curing cancer; we can send a tiny camera down the veins of the human body to peer around. All this, for the most part, we’ve accomplished since the dawn of the 20th century. The Internet itself may be our most innovative and most valuable accomplishment, and this has only been – since 1990.
Religion, on the other hand, is quite unchanged in thousands of years. Religionists have held to olden dogmas, rituals and antiquated ceremonies. Many assert that holding on to the old is a good thing. In fact, it is common for religion-man today to believe the “olden days,” the “prophets of old,” or the “ancient Chinese secrets” are the premises we need to revert to; and that mankind is near going-to-hell-in-a-hand-basket with all this new highfalutin technology.
Both Science and Religion assert they are in ‘search of truth/realty.’ Yet, realistically, they are anything but truth-seeking brothers. Why such a vast gulf between the scientist and the religionist? Should they not be nearing the same truth-seeking conclusions by now? We are not in the stone age. Nor, are we in the dark-mystical age.
It is high time the educated religionist concedes that, in the race for truth and reality, science is at least still running the race, and religion seems to be either stuck in low gear, or grounded in the pit stop.
Here is a thought to consider: Imagine if we were to stumble onto a planet, let’s say a moon of Saturn, and we encounter intelligent human life there. They have been in existence for, let’s say, a million years before Earth was even on the register. Given the age of our 4.5 ‘billion’ year old solar system, that is not inconceivable. They welcome us with open arms. They say they have been an enlightened and peaceful loving world for, let’s say, 5 billion years.
Would they be traveling using horse and buggy, or space ships? Perhaps teleporting! Would they be tilling their soil with archaic tools, or high-tech tools, or to just ‘think it done? Would they still have ailments and physical deformities, or has disease been eradicated? Would they be space-travelers, or domiciled to their “olden ways?”
The question: is technology good and valuable to mankind and an asset to the ‘universal brotherhood of mankind? Or, a tease to keep a soul separated from God?
Perhaps it is a time to let go of mystical-thinking in favor of logic and reality-thinking. Many have been able to make that transition. A good portion of the world, however, seems to refuse to let go of the long-held traditions, ceremonies and dogmas. Unfortunately, organized religion has contrived diligently to keep its adherents bound up in “fear of God,” rather than to trust in, have faith in, the never-ending ‘unfolding of God.’
Students of the Urantia Book will verify that its contents do bring the true scientist and the true religionist together. In its presentation and cosmology, there is no gulf, no difference, between a science-minded truth seeker and truth-seeking religionist.
