Bentley, Bentley, Bentley – it seems to be all Ashley talks about sometimes, and Chris Harrison knows after Monday night’s episode of The Bachelorette, it’s what he needs to talk about too. In Harrison’s blog at EW Tuesday morning, he covered all things Bentley, Chiang Mai, and Ashley’s future. Monday night’s episode of ABC’s The Bachelorette 2011 was jam-packed with drama and action, so Scottsdale fans have been anxious to see Harrison’s take on it all.
The Chiang Mai, Thailand resort
Chris gives a shout out to the Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi, the resort the group stayed at in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Though viewers didn’t get to see much of the guy’s villa, Chris notes that it was a three-story presidential villa. Those that tuned in until the outtake at the end of The Bachelorette saw Ben C. playing the grand piano, which Chris says was so valuable that most of the guys were terrified of breaking it. Though the weather was hot and rainy, the location seemed to awe everybody with the production.
The Muay Thai boxing date
Many people have thought that the Muay Thai boxing date was a poor decision for the show after the injury Ames sustained. Chris, however, says it is one of the coolest dates they’ve had this season. Chris and some of the crew attended a traditional match the evening prior to the date, so they were excited to see the bachelor’s take on the challenge. Harrison notes that the guys trained for about three hours in high heat before heading to the ring, so they were all dehydrated and exhausted before the first round even began.
As viewers know, Ames is not a fighter by nature, and he took several shots to the head from Ryan. Chris said that everyone could tell after the round that something was wrong, and ultimately the hospital said he had a mild concussion. Harrison shares that everybody likes Ames and appreciated his sense of humor about the whole incident, pink trunks and all.
The two-on-one date
Chris believes that he crux of the issue on the two-on-one date was… say it with us now… Bentley. As Chris says, Ashley was not in a good place mentally during this episode, and she wasn’t particularly willing to fight for either Ben C. or William. The way Chris put it is that Ashley wasn’t in the mood for either of the guys that night and sent them both home. As an aside, former Bachelorette Ali Fedotowsky tweeted Monday night that when you’re in the Bachelorette spot, neither guy on a two-on-one is a guy you strongly “like,” so even if one had stayed, it probably wouldn’t have been for much longer.
The black cloud over the cocktail party
During the cocktail party, Chris could feel the tension in the air. He shared, “I will admit I was a little disappointed that she had slipped back in to this place and was still so hung up on Bentley.” He added, “I was brutally honest with her at deliberation. I firmly believed we reached a serious breaking point. If things continue down this path this isn’t going to end well.” Harrison says that at that point, the production staff didn’t know exactly what they were going to do about the situation, but they knew something had to be done. As he says, Bentley does return next week, and “One way or the other this needs to end for her.”
The drama isn’t all about Bentley
Harrison makes a great point that was hinted at during the previews, but has not come up yet otherwise: the other guys and their reaction to Bentley returning. Chris says this factor really is the bigger story next week than Bentley himself returning. During next week’s episode Ashley comes clean with the guys about what has happened, and apparently not all the guys take it well. Chris says next week’s episode shapes everything that happens the rest of the season, and perhaps the rest of Ashley’s life.
Any thoughts on what Chris shared this week? It seems safe to say that the majority of the show’s fans are tired of hearing Bentley’s name, and are ready for him to become a non-issue. What are your thoughts? Are you anxious to watch the show next week, or are you ready to give up on it? Do you think Ashley can move on and find happiness once she meets with Bentley? The Bachelorette episodes can be seen every Monday night at 7 p.m. on Channel 15 in the Scottsdale area. You can also watch The Bachelorette online at ABC.com the day after the show airs.
