“The Chicago Code” star Matt Lauria is joining the “Burn Notice” cast for Season 5, THR reports. The news comes just days after the rookie cop drama was cancelled by FOX.
Lauria will appear in the fifth episode of the upcoming season as Ethan, a recently discharged soldier who catches the interest of the CIA and quickly reminds Michael (Jeffrey Donovan) of himself. The role is likely to be upped to recurring status following “Chicago Code’s” cancellation.

The actor isn’t the only one quickly moving on to another project. “Code” creator and Rockford native Shawn Ryan is currently developing a new series for FX with “Chicago Code” writer Davey Holmes as showrunner. “Nickel” will follow an ex-con who uses self-help books in order to become a better criminal.
A film version of “The Shield” is also within the realm of possibility. “Michael Chiklis and I talk about that at times,” Ryan told EW. “I’m always reluctant to talk too much about it in the press because I wouldn’t want to give fans false hope. But if the right idea at the right time came through the Fox movie division, we’d be open to it. I’m sure there’s a movie that could be made for a price that could made sense.”
Matt Lauria, who played Caleb Evers on the cop show, also starred on “Friday Night Lights” as football player Luke Cafferty. The series ends its run on NBC this summer.
Bush frontman and Gwen Stefani‘s husband, Gavin Rossdale, will also guest star on the new season of “Burn Notice.”
Rossdale will play the wealthy and villainous Armand, who has “a hand in nefarious projects all over the world,” according to EW. In the episode, Fiona (Gabrielle Anwar) reaches out to him for help, but he’ll only provide assistance if she helps him with a major heist.
The 45-year-old rocker has appeared in the films “Constantine” and “Zoolander,” in addition to a guest turn on CBS’ “Criminal Minds.”
Fellow Brit David Dayan Fisher will also guest star on the upcoming fifth season. The “NCIS” star will play a “ruthless and ambitious mercenary.” Both actors will appear in the eighth episode of the season.
“Burn Notice” Season 5 premieres Thursday, June 23 at 9/8c on USA.
