Hollidaysburg, PA native Charlie Brenneman, only days ago removed from the UFC live 4 event taking place tonight at the Consol energy center in Pittsburgh, is now back on the card with a new opponent.
Brenneman’s original bout was scrapped after opponent T.J Grant pulled out due to illness, and ti was deemed by the UFC to be too late to find a replacement opponent.
Yesterday though only hours before the weigh ins began, main event fighter Nate Marquardt, a long time middleweight campaigner scheduled to make his welterweight debut against fast rising Rick Story, pulled out of the event.
Dana White then announced that Marquardt was released from the UFC shortly afterwards in one of his frequent pre-event online videos, leading to speculation over what caused the late pull out.
The only thing White said of the reason behind the pull out was that Marquardt failed his medical tests, which could of course be down to any number of things.
All of which meant that Story was without an opponent. Enter Charlie Brenneman.
Against Story Brenneman will not only be up against a totally different kind of opponent than he trained for (as will story) but will also be taking a big step up in class.
Should be beat Story however, a title shot against the winner of Georges St. Pierre and Nick Diaz could be a real possibility.
