According to information released on Monday, May 23rd, to all Greater Indianapolis Area ATA Schools, Indianapolis will be playing host to a Charity Tournament to support the fight against cancer for one little girl.
The Indianapolis Area ATA Martial Arts schools are joining forces to help a fellow martial artist and her little girl fight back against cancer. On Saturday, June 4th the Instructors and Owners of Pilsung ATA Martial Arts, Indianapolis ATA Black Belt Academy, ATA Family Martial Arts, Martin’s Taekwondo, and other nearby community schools will be holding a special Charity Tournament to help support Ms. Ellie Cushing and her family.
From the Tournament Flyer (currently being circulated through the area ATA schools):
About Ellie Cushing:
Ellie is a very sweet 6 year old who has been through more than any child should go through: a massive brain tumor discovered January 4, 2011. It took up more than half of her brain, pushing the left side over and threatening to close off the Ventricular Fluid Line. If that had occurred her brain would have filled with fluid and she would have died.
She has been through two brain surgeries with 98% of the tumor removed. We have a long journey ahead of us but we are moving in the right direction.
Ms. Ellie is a member of an “extended” family as part of the American Taekwondo Association (ATA). The ATA is a family focused organization, when you join a school in the ATA you become part of the “family”. As she and her family are a part of the “ATA family” they are doing whatever they can to help out. Ms. Ellie has seen three Neurosurgeons, dozens of Doctors and Nurses, been through two 9 hour brain surgeries, spent 16 days in the hospital, 15 weeks in Therapy, and endured 8 weeks of chemotherapy. The family is struggling under not only the weight of the health of their child, but also incredible medical bills. While the “ATA family” cannot help with the health issues they are doing everything they can to help with the medical bills.
The Indianapolis Area “Tournament for Ellie” will be held June 4th beginning at 9am. The local ATA students will be participating in a “green tournament” to help out. All trophies being earned by competitors will be selected from those donated by the students themselves, cutting down on the cost of hosting the tournament and allowing more of the proceeds to be donated to Ellie’s family. The students and parents will also be running a bake sale to help boost the final donation amount. This is an all out effort to do what they can to help this young lady and her family in their time of need.
The tournament is being organized by Mrs. Myers of Pilsung ATA Martial Arts and will be hosted by Mrs. Tammy Parker in her school, Indianapolis ATA Black Belt Academy. (10625 Deme Drive, Suite E, Indianapolis 46236) <- Click for Map
