High pressure continues to thwart the eastward advance of a cold front , currently located from near Buffalo, NY, south and westward to the Texas Gulf Coast. As the day wares on though, this high pressure system will gradually give way as it builds further east, and the cold front will be allowed to approach and pass through the region this evening.
The front looks to stall later tonight just to the east of the immediate Capital Region, and a ripple of low pressure looks to form along it over the Mid-Atlantic states. A relatively impressive inflow of Atlantic moisture will commence by Tuesday afternoon, and by evening, a steady rain looks to inundate the region, causing more flooding concerns for areas that saw copious amounts of rainfall last week.
The entire system pulls north and east of the region by Wednesday evening, and then is forecast to cut off from the upper level flow over the Gulf of Maine on Thursday. The cut off system is forecast to then move slowly back westward across the state of Maine late Thursday and into Friday before being swept northward as the upper level flow picks it back up again.
Unsettled weather looks to result through the end of the work week with chances for afternoon scattered showers and thunderstorms after the potentially significant midweek storm. Temperatures look to be near to slightly below normal through the workweek with precipitation above normal thanks to the midweek event.
