The persistent ridge of high pressure that brought fair and dry early spring weather to the region this week will only slowly begin to break down through the first half of the weekend. This will be the result of a building disturbance over the center of the nation and another weaker disturbance over southeastern Canada that will begin to encroach upon the region during later Saturday evening. Showers are more apt to occur in areas north of the immediate Capital Region, in the vicinity of the Canadian system which will be lethargically sagging southward through the weekend.
As the weekend draws to a close and the new work week begins, the protective ridge of high pressure mentioned above will be overtaken and eventually flattened out by the complex storm system over the center of the nation. The result will be a very slow moving system that will cut itself off from the upper level flow pattern and provide a chance of showers and perhaps some steadier rainfall around the midweek period as a more pronounced wave of low pressure develops and rides from the Ohio Valley to the lower Great Lakes.
All in all, temperatures look to remain near to slightly below normal thanks to the increasing cloud cover forecast as we head into next week. Precipitation looks to average near to slightly above normal, especially during the early to middle portions of the work week next week.
