Over the last couple of months, Bully Ray has broken out of the mold of being just a “tag team wrestler” to become one of the top heels in all of pro-wrestling. His mic work, in-ring work, and overall character has blossomed as a single’s performer. Fight Sports Examiner has consistently ranked Bully Ray in our Top 10 “heels” list over the last few months and on Thursday, one of TNA’s top stars weighed in on the debate of Bully Ray’s newfound stardom. On Thursday, Fight Sports Examiner spoke with “Hardcore Legend” Mick Foley and among the many topics discussed, was Bully Ray’s recent success.
When asked if he agreed with Fight Sports Examiner’s assessment that Bully Ray is one of the top heels in all of pro-wrestling, Mick emphatically responded with the following comments:
“He is! He completely gets how to be a heel. He understands that you really shouldn’t try to be the cool guy when trying to be a heel. He’s not afraid to show his bad or cowardly side. He’s really embracing his heel character.” said Foley
“There’s a lot of his own persona in it” Mick said as he laughed over the ‘crack’ he was about to take at Ray’s expense. “He’s really lost a lot of weight. He’s been watching what he eats. And if you know Ray, he can really eat. So, that definitely shows his dedication.”
Since Bully Ray has joined Immortal back in late March, he has been inserted in top storylines with solid feuds including an ongoing feud with AJ Styles. However, Ray has come close to sniffing a spot as one of TNA’s world title contenders. Last week, TNA held a battle royal to determine the #1 contender for the world title and Bully Ray finished as the runner up.
When asked if he could see Bully Ray as a world champion, Foley had the following response:
“I do see him as a world champion. He has broken out of the mold of tag-team wrestling. His persona, interviews and matches have all gotten better. He’s taken his career to another level. I can definitely see him as TNA world champion some day.”
Fight Sports Examiner’s Top 10 Heels List will be out on Monday May 23rd. More of the interview with Mick Foley will be posted throughout the day as we covered a multitude of topics including TNA’s re-branding, the X-Division, The Rock, retirement, and more.
