Like most other big cities in America, Cincinnati is an avid follower of both the games of baseball and football. Known best for the Cincinnati reds and the Bengals, the Queen City has been subject to both ups and downs. This week, the city was once again knocked down as one of the Bengals star players Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson formally resigned from the team to play for the New England Patriots. While not the pefect player, Johnson’s cut ties could make or break this Cincinnati symbol for years to come. The biggest question is how does football connect to fighting games? The answer is surprisingly similar. In recent years, fighting games have been focusing more on team dynamics than on fighter vs. fighter attacks. One of the best examples of this is the Naruto Ultimate Ninja game series which has stopped using characters from small quick attacks and began using them as actual allies (with things such as cover fire, defensive formations, and the traditional team finishers). To say farewell to Mr. Johnson and welcome to his replacement, here’s a list of the few new support only characters as a reminder.
One of the best examples of a support only character would be the Mist-Nin Ao, former revolutionary and veteran soldier of the Land of Mist. Ao is a perfect example of a support character in the fact that, unlike other support characters, he has an actual record of being in combat without being exceptionally young or deceased. This alone makes him a completely different type of support.
Next on the list would be the amazingly unknown Cloud ninja Darui the Storm user. Despite the rather unappealing name (after all, similar games have been known to use all five elements in a similar way to a storm), Darui’s storm abilities could possibly be one of the most intimidating abilities in the entire game. Unlike the thunder and lighting type of abilities that have been seen in the past, the Darui’s storm jutsu are in laser attacks. This alone could prove to be one of the biggest deciding factors in battle.
Finally to round off the list is the Rock-Nin Kurotsuchi. Unlike the previous characters who each brought something new to to the board, Kurotsuchi is a border character. Very little is known about the girl and what is known is almost identical to Mei Terumi, another new character from the game. For this reason, Kurotsuchi is a character that will undoubtedly have players on the edge of their seats. Why? For the knowledge that this girl could possibly be the most important factor in battle.
