Forecast Discussion: After seeing a little sunshine and some quick moving periods of rain yesterday, today will be the last day of seeing moderate rainfall. A surface low pressure system is currently over the Mid-Atlantic. Over the course of today, the surface low, and the upper level low that also has been stationary the last several days, will slowly begin to move eastward. Some colder air in the upper levels will move over the area, which will help create more widespread rain showers and possible thunderstorms. With warmer temperatures today, the best chance for precipitation will be the afternoon and early evening. By tomorrow, the low will have moved out to sea, and we will see breaks of sunshine from time to time. It will be a little cooler on Sunday, when a weak front passes through the region. By Monday, warmer air from the south will begin to filter into the area, with temperatures becoming more seasonable by Monday. During the month of May, up to the 19th, last year, Boston had seen 10 days of high temperatures at or above 70. So far, for 2011, only 3 days have been 70 or above. Another cold front will bring some isolated showers by Tuesday morning.
