The 5th Annual Leimert Park Village Book Fair is free event for the whole family. This year’s notables include Pulitzer Prize winning author, Isabel Wilkerson; Dr. Julianne Malveaux, author, economist, and president of Bennett College for Women; Susan L. Taylor, who was inducted into the American Society of Magazine Editors for her work as editor-in-chief at Essence magazine; Todd Bridges, child star, producer, and author of Killing Willis; and Russ Parr, comedian, recording artist, radio host, and author of The Game Behind the Game. The event is on Saturday, June 25, 2011 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Leimert Park on the Vision Theatre Back lot, located at 43rd Street and Degnan Boulevard.
Saturday night, June 25, 2011, at 5 p.m., Book Soup is hosting a signing and discussion with David A. Kirby, author of Lab Coats in Hollywood: Science, Scientists, and Cinema. In his book, Kirby looks at the way in which film shades popular perceptions of science, how consulting scientists lend plausibility to movie science, and the choices filmmakers make to balance scientific accuracy with production constraints.
Skylight Books presents a reading and signing by noted avant-garde poet, Will Alexander. Alexander will read from his poetry collection Compression & Purity.
