Hidden in the southeast corner of the Vons shopping center off Durango and Warm Springs, 808 Sushi provides a casual all-you-can-eat outing with a reasonable price tag and an even more appealing happy hour. A sushi bar stretches the length of the small restaurant, where chefs can be seen rolling custom orders with an Island twist. From classic Dragon to Hawaiian-fused specialty rolls, 808’s bottomless menu also features bold-tasting appetizers. Several Nigiri cuts hold remarkable taste, surpassing their counterparts from famed sushi establishments across the Strip. A moderate beer and sake selection, heavily discounted for part of the day, also adds to the dining experience.
Hmmm, this review seems a bit different than what I’m used to. Click here to find out how it works.
Location: 7435 South Durango Drive Las Vegas, NV 89113 Southwest Las Vegas, ~10 minutes from Strip.
Price: $24.95/person for all you can eat.
Reservations: Walk-in available
Variety: A mid-size menu features several dozen selections that span over appetizers, classic and specialty rolls, Nigiri, and desserts. While they only offer a few baked orders, dishes like the Kilouea and Deep Fried Philadelphia rolls make a focal point for heavy food lovers. An array of starters boast delectable flavor, with many coming back for more garlic chicken, teriyaki beef, and Tako Karooge, or fried octopus. For dessert, be sure to try the mocchi, or ice cream wrapped in sweet rice dough.
Food Presentation: Rolls come out in artistic fashion, showing off fresh color from quality ingredients. Appetizers arrive hot, sitting on beds of cabbage for added character.
Atmosphere: While tiny in size, 808 holds a spacious, diner-esque feel for a laid-back experience. Families frequent through its doors, but the noise level remains quite low. Black tables and a long sushi bar add authenticity to the restaurant’s origins.
Service: Staff frequently tend to their guests and turn over custom sushi orders relatively fast for an all-you-can-eat establishment. Shout-out to Valerie, a vivacious server with amiable flare and great sushi/sake recommendations.
Misc: 808’s happy hour features 50 percent off sushi rolls and beer, as well as 1-dollar hot sake. Happy hour runs Monday-Friday, 3-6:30 p.m. and Friday-Saturday, 9-11 p.m.
