Bellator 44 is going to be a great card. The event that will have the Bellator Middleweight Champ, and the Season 4 Lightweight Finals will be taking place on May 14th, in Atlantic City, NJ. Top 10 Middleweight and Bellator Middleweight Champion Hector Lombard will take on Falaniko Vitale, in a non-title Middleweight bout. In the co-main event, we will finally get to see who Philadelphia fighter and Bellator Lightweight Champ Eddie Alvarez, will be defending his Lightweight title against next, with Patricky “Pitbull” Freire taking on rising star Michael Chandler, in the Bellator Season 4 Lightweight Finals. Also there will be 2 more Philadelphia fighters on this card, with Philadelphia Fight Factory product, Sam Oropeza taking on Giedrius Karavackus in a Welterweight bout on the undercard, and Philly fighter and Daddis Fight Camp product Anthony Morrison takes on Bryan Goldsby for a spot in the Season 5 Bellator Bantamweight tournament.
Hector Lombard has a very impressive 28-2-1-1 record with notable victories over Joe Doerksen, TUF 3 alum Kalib Starnes, UFC fighter Brian Ebersole, and Australian striker James Te-Huna. He has only lost twice by decision, once at the hands of former Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion Gegard Mousasi and the other at the hands of MMA veteran Akihiro Gono. He will be taking on Falaniko Vitale though, who is definitely no slouch. Vitale has a record of 29-9 with 16 of his victories coming by Submission. He holds victories over the likes of UFC veterans Matt Lindland, Dave Menne, and current UFC Middleweight number one contender Yushin “Thunder” Okami. Vitale is on a 3 fight win streak, and is looking to be the first fighter to beat a Bellator Champion in a non-title fight with the organization. Lombard on the other hands would definitely like to keep the Champion wins in non-title bouts going, by winning against Vitale. This bout will definitely be an exciting one.
The co-main event is the Season 4 Lightweight final between Patricky Freire and Michael Chandler. Freire has looked very impressive in the tournament so far, knocking out both former WEC Lightweight Champion “Razor” Rob McCullough, and the man who had made it to the Lightweight Finals 2 Seasons in a row, Toby Imada, which may be a contestant for KO of the Year. Bellator Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez has expressed interest in facing Freire, because he believes “Freire brings it and it would be a great fight.” He will be facing a very impressive rising star in Michael Chandler. Chandler has looked very good in the tournament as well, defeating Marcin Held by first round submission in the Tournament Quarterfinals, and then Lloyd Woodard by Unanimous Decision. Chandler is undefeated so far going 7-0 in his young career. Chandler relies a lot on his wrestling, while Freire is very well rounded. This fight might will be a very exciting fight, don’t blink because you might miss something.
