The poet, Robert Frost once wrote (and was paraphrased by Billy Crystal in “When Harry Met Sally”) “When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to begin as soon as possible!” What a great tribute and ideal that is ~ to want to spend the rest of your life with that special someone!
Well, now that you have that special someone with whom you want to spend the rest of your life with, how’s it going? Has anything changed since that decision? One of the things that might have happened could be that life in South Florida is not what you thought it was going to be, nor is it that way anywhere, really. Life get real, it gets messy, confusing, difficult, should I go on? The problem with the ideal is that that’s what it is, an ideal! Life does get in the way, we begin to clutter, get busy, complicated, tired, bored, you fill in the blanks……! Why do you think that is? Let’s back up for a minute: When two people begin a relationship they usually have some sense of unity, togetherness. As time, situations, other people (read: kids, in-laws, etc.) come into being, that sense of unity gets challenged! It’s not really about what’s happened so much as how we manage what it is that has happened and just how we cope with it all! In this time of uncertainty, fearful events, dropping economies, loss and lack of control, just to hold our heads above water is a monumental task that we face every day! No wonder our relationships are challenged! We get that!
To begin to deal with it all, cut yourself a break! If you made it thus far, you’re ahead of the game! Now, just begin to think for yourself, what’s really important? Who’s really important to me? Just clarifying and identifying the most important things to you in your life can give you a really good beginning toward some clean, open space in order for you to reassess, re-gear, regroup! Getting ‘grounded’ is another way of saying, “It’s time for me to get real, to acknowledge who, what, where, when, how?” In other words, re-evaluate what is primary, essential and a “must” in your life! Just shifting from that old passive, reactive stance into a new perception of think, feel, act can initiate a new “you’! By just thinking first, i.e., “How am I thinking about this situation?” or “What do I think I should do?” gets the ball back in your court! Once you begin to really think, your body will accept your thoughts by giving you a feeling, which then can help you act upon (or not!) how you feel. It’s entirely up to you to think first, feel through it, then behave how you wish to behave. Choosing and adopting new ways of thinking, new frames of values can begin to re-create the ‘you’ of YOU! Yes, you did make that decision to spend the rest of your life with that special someone, how about beginning it as soon as possible? And, South Florida is just the place to do it!
JUST THINK ABOUT I! GIVE IT SOME THOUGHT! WHAT A NOTION!
