All of the great events and concerts going on in downtown Greenville in the summer time make outside the place to be. Unfortunately, ten minutes in the upstate’s sauna like warmth and humidity will turn liquid foundation to a cakey mess and beautifully laid hair into a ball of frizz and moisture.
Avoid liquid foundations in the summer time in favor of mineral powders, such as Purminerals 4-in-1 foundation, or Bare Minerals Matte powder foundation (SPF 15). The coverage is lighter, allowing the skin to breath more easily, and they stand up better to humidity. Choose powdered blushes and shadows over cream colors, and make sure mascara is waterproof. In place of eye liner, try using a wedged brush to tap a thin line of dark shadow along the lash line. This will give the eye a softer look and stay in place much better than liners, which are often water based and thus, subject to the wrath of the humidity.
Salon straightened hair and heat styled hair do not stand a chance against Greenville’s heat. It is summer, relax and try a softer style—not only will you keep your look fresh longer, your hair will get a break from harsh styling products and reward you with silky softness in the fall!
Wavy hair lends itself beautifully to the pony tail. For a sophisticated look, use a spray in conditioner all over dry hair, then pull back and secure with a soft band. Spray the sides with a shine enhancing hair spray, such as Kiehl’s Climate-Proof Shine-Enhancing Spray, and embellish the band with a cute barrette, broach, or ribbon.
Stick straight hair tends to hold up well if you do not try to curl it. Because Greenville’s afternoons are not much cooler than the iron you used to curl with, curls fall out almost immediately. Leave your hair straight and tuck it behind your ears. Use a shine serum to tame flyaway strands and frizz. If this is too basic for your taste, embellish your locks with a cute headband.
Humidity and heat destroy curly hair, turning it in to a frizzy ball of tangles. Use a thick head band to keep curls away from your face. Spray the hair in front of the band with hair spray, and use a curl enhancer, like Aveda’s Be Curly line, for the back. The curl enhancer will create a barrier between your hair and the moisture in the air to reduce frizz.
Summer is a time to relax, let your style reflect your relaxed attitude, and you will look fabulous at all of the great outdoor events Greenville has to offer this summer.
