Alright Carolina golfers, it’s time to recognize a great tool to enjoy your favorite courses from the comfort of home. For xbox 360 gamers, it’s double good. Avatar Golf for the xbox live arcade is an independent game developed by Barker’s Coast Games and released by Microsoft Game studios. It features several very well designed courses that were made by the developers but has such a fun course creator that adds endless replay value. A cheap purchase of 800 points and you have the ability to design and enjoy any course your imagination can conceive.
One of the most enjoyable uses has been taking the chance to design some of my favorite courses from memory. It allowed me a chance to think about each hole and the layout of hazards. I am sure that the next time I play one of the courses that I spent time designing in the game, I will only play a better round. I will know the course better than ever. I will have a better perspective of what approach I need to take to play each shot.
To enjoy this fantastic tool for creating golf from the imagination, all you need is an internet connection, an xbox 360, and less than twenty bucks for the game purchase. It is a lot of fun to play and has been a source of amusement as I take on the hundreds of courses that my gamer and golfing buddies have created. Some of which have been circus style insanity. Novelty courses fill the lists of what every gamer I know, spent their time designing first. It will allow you to learn the simple to use design tools and get you acquainted with the game play as well.
It is easy to recommend this game to gamers but for you golfers that may not yet own an xbox 360, this is a good reason to try one out. If you really love the game of golf, this game will only fuel the fire. Since it also utilizes the avatars from xbox live, it offers up the fun of playing golf in whatever outfit you can put together with the avatar store or the things you earn as avatar awards in games.
I would have to say that the game gets an 8 out of 10, only because it has had a few connection issues that popped up a few times when a few of us tried to connect to each other to play on courses we created.
All in all the game offers much more fun to the lacking market of solid golf games. Outside of the Tiger Wood’s Monopoly of professional golf games from EA, there is nothing else to be excited about on the xbox or PS3. On the Wii there is the Wii sports golf that offers very little but is an ok play if you get desperate during a heavy rainstorm. Hand held games have had a few solid releases, namely ESPN golf for the Game Boy Advance. There really hasn’t been any movement to create good alternatives for the big three consoles. So Avatar golf stands out quite a bit as the only non-miniature golf title to have any promise at all. The game has been out for over a year now and has already seen an update that included more creator content to use when building holes.
I hope you will seek this game out as it is both cheap and extremely fun. See you on the digital links. Bring your own beverage.
