University of Texas at Austin graduate Sanya Richards will be attending The Leadership Gala 2011 on Thursday, May 19, 2011, with other all-star athletes and business movers and shakers to benefit The Heroes Foundation.
Sanya Richards, born in Jamaica, has won two Olympic gold medals in the 4 x 400 meters relay at the 2004 Olypmic Games in Athens, Greece, and the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, as well as an individual bronze medal at the 2009 Olympics for the 400 m. In the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, Richards won the gold medal in the 400 meter race.
Richards is no golden (medal) goose. She struggles constantly with training and athletics, suffering from Bahcet’s disease, a form of vasculitis. Bahcet’s causes ulcers and lesions on the skin, which has interfered with her career since she was first diagnosed in 2007.
Richards is married to her UTA college sweetheart, the New York Giants cornerback, Aaron Ross.
The Heroes Foundation provides programs that allow disadvantaged youth to participate in a select baseball program and potentially reach a higher level of play to showcase their talents in front of colleges and pro scouts.
The Leadership Gala is a red-carpet affair at The Room on Main, in Dallas.
