Ashley Hebert broke six hearts on Monday’s “The Bachelorette” season seven premiere when she had to send six of the 25 men she met home. The bachelors who didn’t make the cut were Anthony Santucci, Chris Malhomme, Frank Carpenter, Jon Ellsworth, Michael Burns, Rob Dahm and Tim McCormack – although Tim was eliminated prior to the rose ceremony but after he passed out from too much liquor.

Prior to meeting her bachelors, Ashley and show host Chris Harrison chatted about her thoughts going into the night. Ashley was nervous but excited to be back at the house, and she appeared ready to avoid the mistakes she’d made while on “The Bachelor” (complaining, constantly feeling insecure and misusing her time with Brad Womack, as she put it). In that moment, she was open and honest and 100 percent ready to dive into the experience, whatever it may bring.
The first shocking revelation of the season came up during Ashley’s conversation with Chis, and it was hard to deny that even he looked shocked. Ashley said she knew who one of the contestants was and had already been warned that he was not on the show for the right reasons. The contestant she was referring to was Bentley, a divorced father that had no problem telling viewers in his first interview that he hoped the bachelorette was Emily Maynard and wasn’t Ashley Hebert. She was told he was on the show to promote his job, but Ashley said she wasn’t counting him out just yet because “people talk.”
At the first mixer, Ashley had the chance to get to know each of the men, and the competition was tough for the first impression rose. One man faked guitar-playing skills to gain her attention, while another man tried out a few impressions and a third used giant cue cards through a window to gain her attention. It was Ryan P. who received the rose, though. Ashley felt they had a great connection and a lot in common, and she was really impressed with his personal and professional lives.
Highlights from the first meetings
Jon was the first to shock Ashley. He picked her up and threw her over his shoulder after asking if they could “just go straight to the honeymoon.” Ashley absolutely loved it and couldn’t stop cracking up about the cute move.
William was adorable and could be hard to resist. He told Ashley he had thought up a bunch of things to say to her but couldn’t remember any of them now that he was standing in front of her. He also almost forgot to tell her his name.
Mickey’s opening move was a little lame but came with good reasoning. He wanted to be remembered, so he used Chantal O’Brien’s line of “something from all the women in the world.” Instead of women, he of course said men, and instead of slapping her, he tried to kiss her. No surprise she backed away. It was pretty inappropriate for moment one and gave off a weird vibe.

West presented Ashley with a compass stuck on west, telling her that if she ever feels lost in the process she can look at it and no he is here for her.
Ames gave Ashley tickets to the ballet. I wonder for how long those tickets are good?
Jeff walked out of the limo wearing a masquerade mask. Basically, he wanted her to learn about him, looks aside. The mask appeared to confuse Ashley and made Jeff the first target of the other men, who thought he looked like an idiot and wondering if he had something to hide. Later, Ashley had the chance to speak with Jeff about the mask, and she actually liked his reason behind wearing it and commended him for his decision.
Ben F., a winemaker in San Francisco, Calif., brought a bottle of his own wine and two glasses to toast their first meeting.
Frank was the second bachelorette to pick Ashley up, but instead of trying to carry her away, he danced with her, twirling her around and dipping her at the end.
Ryan M. brought a camera with him to take a photo of Ashley doing her signature “Bachelor” move. The pair also took some adorable photos together. Unfortunately, he pushed it a little far when he asked if he could have her take a picture of him with Chris Harrison later.
Constantine made a ring out of pink dental floss for Ashley.
Highlights from the season’s first mixer
Ashley and Ben F. seemed very comfortable with one another. While he has a lot on his plate (a full-time job, running a winery and going back to school), he seems to have it all together and under control.
Matt immediately talked about wanting to take Ashley home, saying he felt she and his mother would get along really well. Matt is such a self-proclaimed momma’s boy that he called his mom while sitting with Ashley. Ashley was into it and couldn’t stop laughing when Matt’s mom told the couple that if they choose to use the fantasy suite they should remember their moms are watching and to use protection. Oh, wow!
Ashley Hebert says she felt pressure, nerves during first mixer as ‘The Bachelorette’
William was again adorable during the mixer. He tried out a few impressions on Ashley, which she loved, and he made her laugh just by being so nervous. He considers himself a 30-year-old kid, but I think she really liked that.
By the time Ashley went to talk to Tim, he was far past drunk. He was a man of few words when they first met, so Ashley felt bad for him when he wasted another opportunity to talk to her because he was too inebriated to conversate. No surprise he was the one who picked a fight with Jeff, and after he passed out snoring it was even less of a surprise that Ashley chose not to keep him for another week. Ashley actually sent Tim home prior to the first impression rose being given, and she had to have several of the other bachelors carry him out to the car.
J.P. and Ashley had an instant connection thanks to cupcakes. During their first sit down, J.P. learned Ashley loves cupcakes, Ashley learned J.P.’s nickname at work is Cupcake, and Ashley told J.P. she has always wanted to be called Cupcake.
Like Bentley’s first meeting with Ashley, his first sit down with her was very awkward. He was pretty standoffish, which was no surprise because Ashley wasn’t Emily. Ashley was pleasantly surprised with how honest she felt Bentley was being, especially after he said there was no way he’d stick around if he didn’t feel something for her, which left her feeling more confused than ever. Later, when Ryan received the first impression rose, Bentley told viewers he was angry he didn’t get the rose because he is competitive, not because he is attracted to Ashley.
Check back tomorrow for the season’s first interview with ‘Bachelorette’ star Jesse Csincsak. Each Tuesday he’ll comment on Monday’s episode, talking about the bachelors he thinks are right for Ashley and wrong for Ashley, giving us special insight into how Ashley and her bachelors are feeling, and give his take on some of the season’s most shocking and exciting moments.
