Arcana to revive ‘Aftermath’ line

by iced jamb

Arcana Studio recently acquired the properties from Devil’s Due Publishing’s short-lived “Aftermath” super hero line. Launched in 2004, the line comprised of four titles, Defex, Breakdown, Blade of Kumori and Infantry. They featured all-star writers Marv Wolfman, Chuck Dixon, Ron Marz and Joe Casey, respectively. Now the line is back with a series of collections and Sean O’Reilly, Arcana Studio Founder and CEO, answered a few questions about the company’s plans:

Arcana Studio recently announced trade paperback collections for Devil’s Due Publishing’s “Aftermath” line of comics. Did Arcana purchase the properties outright?

We did but with all our creator books we do ensure that creators are given incentive and reward to work with us by having them share all revenue streams with us from publishing to ancillary including features.

To date, collections for Defex, Breakdown and Blade of Kumori have been announced. Are there any plans to collect the fourth title, Infantry?

Infantry is currently in development but I don’t think there’s any plans to collect it at this time. But things can always change…

Can you say what kind of project is in development, if not a collection?

It’s a big project with a really big celebrity on it… ’nuff said. ;)

Does Arcana currently have any plans to continue the line after the release of the collections?

We would love to continue to develop the line further and explore other storylines of the characters within this very imaginative universe.

Will Arcana be keeping the titles under the “Aftermath” name or will they be integrated with any of your other properties?

We will be dropping the Aftermath name and might try to work a couple characters into an upcoming series.

Thank you, Sean, for your time and best of luck with the properties.

Mark Poulton, Vice President of Operations, will be representing Arcana Studio at the Wizard World Philadelphia Comic Con in the Pennsylvania Convention Center from June 17-19, 2011. Mark can be found in The Artist’s Alley promoting his Arcana books A Cat Named Haiku, Koni Waves, and Velvet Rope, as well as promoting an upcoming ongoing series at Image, Rob Liefeld’s AVENGELYNE, and a new creator owned project GRAVEYARD SHIFT with Jon Malin (Marvel’s Cable/Deadpool and New Warriors artist).

Breakdown and Defex will be in stores July, 12, 2011. Blade of Kumori will be in stores September 20, 2011.

All are currently available for preorder.
