FOX’s pop culture juggernaut “American Idol” continued on its decade of dominance tour tonight, airing locally on FOX 5 NY, with the final two singing for America’s votes. Now with everything on the line, here’s how the night went down:
Final 2 Theme: “Idol’s Pick/Idol’s Idol Pick/1st Single”
Song 1: Montgomery Gentry’s “Gone” – (Idol’s Pick)
Song 2: George Strait’s “Check Yes or No” (Idol’s Idol [George Strait] Pick)
Song 3: “I Love You This Big” (Scotty’s 1st Single)
Scotty consistently has been able to make the musical theme of the week adapt to him and not vice versa. For that simple fact alone he should be commended. Again he’s got the voice, he’s got the fans and combined he just may have the competition locked up. Although don’t discount Alaina as her fans stepped up last week to put her over Haley in total votes. Regardless it’s entirely fitting that these two are battling for the crown.
Song 1: Carrie Underwood’s “Flat On The Floor” – (Idol’s Pick)
Song 2: Pam Tillis’ “Maybe It’s Memphis” – (Idol’s Idol [Carrie Underwood] Pick)
Song 3: “Like My Mother Does” – (Lauren’s 1st Single)
From her first audition, Lauren has come across as nothing by a Southern Belle. She’s smart, she’s sweet and she’s exactly what you’d get if you mixed together previous winners Kelly Clarkson & Carrie Underwood. Every week she’s given it her all and when the confetti flies tomorrow night, it’s entirely possible it will be to celebrate her win (especially after her “Idol” moment during her last performance). The only question is if she can pull in enough votes to shock Scotty who is the heavy favorite. With throngs of teen girls hanging on his every word, it will be close race.
So who needs your votes? By this point it’s a dead heat. This is the most evenly matched finale the show has had in a long time and as a result you really can’t go wrong with either contestant winning. From Scotty’s dead-on performance of “Gone,” to open the show to Lauren going into the crowd to sing to her mother to close it, it’s been a season of big moments and big surprises and there’s no reason to believe tomorrow night won’t be just as unpredictable.
That’s a wrap for tonight, but make sure to tune back in tomorrow night (locally on FOX 5 NY) at 8pm EST for the results.
