‘American Idol’ season 10 is coming to a close and the drama is only getting bigger. Idol contender Lauren Alaina hurt her vocal chords during rehearsal and producers were actually so nervous that they brought back 3rd place contestant Haley Reinhart. That would have been a huge disappoint to Idol fans who voted to get Lauren into the top two. Thankfully, Lauren didn’t use her voice until the show and she was ready to sing her heart out. However, a doctor was on set, just in case. Let the showdown begin!
Round 1: Contestant’s choice
Idol contender Scotty McCreery is performing his favorite song of the season “Gone.” He blew it out of the Nokia Theater! He was absolutely amazing. He brought so much energy to the stage and got the entire audience into it.
Lauren sang “Flat On the Floor.” With only a hint of voice-trouble showing, Lauren strutted her way through the song. She even got a standing O from judges Jennifer Lopez (who looked absolutely spectacular in a sparkly green dress) and Randy Jackson. However, we don’t get to hear the judge’s responses to each performance.
Round 2: Idols Choose for Idols
Scotty’s idol is George Straight who chose his own song “Check Yes or No” for Scotty. That must be an absolute honor for Scotty. He sang it beautifully, but I wish the song was a bit tougher.
Lauren gets her song chosen by her idol and Idol alumni, Carrie Underwood. Carrie chose “Maybe It Was Memphis” for Lauren. Lauren looked absolutely amazing all glammed up on that big stage. Her voice actually sounded really good.
The judges finally get to speak and Randy has them tied 1-1. J-Lo agrees with Randy and Steven Tyler gives both rounds to Lauren because well, “she’s prettier.” You gotta love Steven.
Taio Cruz performed his new single. He’s got a great voice on him, but uh, his mic went out mid-song. At least we know he wasn’t ip-syncing. Plus the song is about being ‘positive,’ so he can’t be too upset about it.
Round 3: Winner’s Song
“I Love You This Big” in Jimmy Iovine’s words is the perfect song to launch Scotty’s career. The song is sweet, emotional and it’s a big song. Iovine was actually right about a song once. It is perfect for Scotty. He gets to show off his sweet side plus he gets to show off his amazing vocals. We got to hear from the judges again and they praised his performance.
Lauren is singing “Like My Mother Does,” this is sure to be a heart-string-puller. Lauren going down into the audience to sing directly to her mother might have just won her the competition. Randy gave her a standing O and Jennifer even went as far as to say that one performance may have just won her the competition. And Steven said that in his eyes Lauren is his Idol.
What an incredible show with some extremely incredible performances. I personally have no idea who to vote for. I love both of these contestants equally. They’re both humble, sweet, young and extremely talented. J-Lo summed it up perfectly, America has a tough choice to make tonight. Good luck!
