Once again, pop artist Adam Lambert took to twitter to voice his support for Haley Reinhart on this season’s American Idol. He commended her on both her unique performance and the fact that she stood up for herself in response to criticism from the judges. Although Adam has made it very clear for a while now that his top choice is Haley, he also commended the other three contestants on their vocal talent. He tweeted:
“Haley gets criticized cuz she’s the best and SO not cookie cutter. She was Fiesty 2n b/c she’s a strong, smart woman. my fav kind o woman.
The other three are doing great and are working hard but have grown so predictable to me. Not bringing much freshness to the table.
Bottom line- in my opinion, Haley would make the edgiest, most original album out of the three. #Realness
Don’t get me wrong y’all. James, Lauren and Scotty are so talented! They’ll all do very well. But their voices can all b compared to others.”
Haley performed two songs last night – Ben E. King’s “I Who Have Nothing” and “Earth Song” by Michael Jackson. You can view Haley’s performance of I Who Have Nothing by clicking on the video link to the left.
Two of the judges critiqued Haley’s performance of Earth Song quite harshly. Jennifer Lopez criticized her song choice, saying that Haley should choose a hit song, rather than one that just has a great message. Randy said he was confused about who Haley is as an artist. He agreed with Jennifer that it was a bad song choice and told Haley that she was screaming at the end of the song because the notes were at the top of her range.
According to E! Online, Haley was still fuming over the disagreement when they chatted with her after the show:
“Yeah I’m mad,” she said. “Everybody else gets good feedback and they really let me have it. They don’t feel bad for me. Never have, never will. I got a little upset because that song is downright inspiring and emotional. No matter what, that hit me to the heart.”
However, Haley apparently used that anger to fuel her second performance of the night, after which all three judges gave her a glowing review. Jennifer said she “can’t take it easy on her” (referring to the earlier criticism) because she is capable of a performance as good as this second song. Randy admitted to being hard on her earlier, but she had “a moment” with the second song, “one of her best vocals ever.”
Who do you agree with – the American Idol judges, or Adam Lambert? Do you think Haley is the best of the top four contestants? Tune in to American Idol tonight to see if America agreed and voted her into the top three finalists.
