Earlier in the day, news broke that Lauren Alaina was having issues with her voice and might have to possibly drop-out of tonight’s American Idol finale. Just in case, the powers-that-be on the Idol show, had last weeks eliminated contestant, Haley Reinhart on the sidelines; waiting for the off chance that they may play her one last time.
A clever move to garner more attention for tonight’s last sing-off, or the real deal, the show promises to be entertaining as it all plays out before our eyes.
The first song choice of the night is each contestant’s favorite song from this season. For the second song, Carrie Underwood chooses a song for Lauren Alaina, and George Strait will chose for Scotty McCreery. With the third song, they will each sing the song that will be released as their first single, should they win this season’s American Idol.
With the usual coin toss, Scotty McCreery won and deferred the decision of who sings first to Lauren Alaina. Playing it smart, the 16-year-old chose to let Scotty sing first.
Here is how it all went down…
Round One: Contestants Choice
Scotty McCreery chose ‘Gone’ as his first song, and appeared to light up every young girls face as he turned on his usual flirty charm.
Lauren Alaina chose ‘Flat on the Floor’ leaving us all to wonder if we were watching ‘Country Idol’, as both contestants definitely have that country flavor going on in their favor.
Round Two: George Strait & Carrie Underwood’s Choices for the Contestants
Scotty McCreery sang George Straits,‘Check Yes or No.’
Lauren Alaina sang Pam Tillis,‘Maybe it was Memphis.’
After two rounds, Randy Jackson and Jennifer Lopez each gave the first round to Scotty and the second to Lauren, with Steven Tyler giving both to Lauren, but saying it was because she was prettier.
Round Three: Winners First Released Single
Scotty McCreery– his single is ‘I love you this Big.’ A song perfectly suited to Scotty’s style and could definitely be a hit with his country fans. The Judges liked his performance and the song, with Steven Tyler telling him that he takes chances and nailed it.
Lauren Alaina- her single is ‘Like my Mother Does.’ Another song perfectly picked for Lauren. She not only sang it beautifully, but she put so much heart and emotion into it that she seemed to win over the entire place. The Judges unanimously loved her performance, with Randy Jackson even giving her a standing ovation. Jennifer Lopez said that the competition was a tight race, but with her song, Lauren may just have won it.
