Nearly two hundred pieces of artwork were submitted but only 49 were accepted for inclusion in the Alliance for the Arts’ 25th Annual All Florida Juried Competition. The 49 pieces that were juried into the show will be revealed on June 10 at a combination opening reception and awards ceremony. The reception runs from 5:00-7:30 p.m., but the awards for Best in Show, 2nd Place, 3rd Place and Jurors Choice will be announced at 6:00 p.m. by 2011 Juror, Kevin Costello.
The exhibition will be on display at the Alliance June 10 – August 6, 2011.
Artwork displayed in this exhibit includes work by forty Florida artists, several of which reside here in Lee County. Exhibiting artists include Carmine J. Sexton Campbell, Tom Cardamone, Jerry Churchill, Larry Coates, Gael Collar, Pat Collins, Tracey Owen-Cullimore, Pascale Doxy, Matthew L. This year’s juror, Kevin Costello, is a graduate of the Chelsea School of Art and Goldsmith’s College, University of London. After emigrating to the U.S., Costello taught visual arts and art history at the San Francisco Academy of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and worked as a carousel wood carver for the San Francisco Art Commission. Currently, Mr. Costello is an Instructor in Advanced Drawing in the Fine Arts Department at the Ringling College of Art and Design as well as Ringling’s Continuing Studies & Special Programs. He is also a frequent lecturer in Contemporary Art History in the Elderhostel Program at Stetson University.
In Florida, Kevin Costello’s art works are currently represented by Gallery Hoffman Porges, Ybor City Tampa and in Sarasota by State of The Arts Gallery.
