A warm front will push through the region later today with a round of showers and thunderstorms. A wedge of warmer air will push into the region on Tuesday with temperatures possibly well into the 80’s, before a cold front advances into the region by late in the day with strong thunderstorms possible, and unsettled weather continuing into mid-week as the front stalls out.
Here is the complete forecast for Albany and the Capital Region of upstate New York:
TODAY – Another variably cloudy day is in store with a few breaks of sunshine in spots as a warm front slowly approaches from the southwest. A round of showers and thunderstorms is possible with the frontal passage through this afternoon and evening with high temperatures in the upper 60’s to lower 70’s and a south wind at 10 to 15 mph.
TUESDAY – A cold front will push through during the day with scattered showers and perhaps a weak thunderstorm, but mixing behind the front with a southwesterly flow will promote warming with temperatures pushing into the lower 80’s by afternoon, along with partly sunny and breezy conditions. A weak impulse may move along the front late in the day, which could promote a few more showers and thunderstorms, especially across southern areas, and some of the storms may become severe.
WEDNESDAY – An area of high pressure will briefly build into the region with a period of dry weather and mostly sunny skies developing. Temperatures behind the cold front will be a bit cooler in the low to mid 70’s. The next shortwave will begin to approach late in the day with a few showers well north and west of Albany.
OUTLOOK – A broad upper level trough to our north in southeastern Canada will keep a southwesterly flow across the region into the extended period which looks to keep our weather rather unsettled with chances of showers and thunderstorms late Thursday and into Friday. A back door cold front will approach by late Friday and get hung up over the region into the weekend, and with a surface low developing along the front, showers and thunderstorms will remain in the forecast. Unsettled weather looks to remain around into the Holiday weekend, with some chance of drier conditions as the weekend progresses. High temperatures will be in the mid to upper 70’s through the weekend.
