Political corruption, scandalous behavior, and releasing personal demons, for many, these decisions will come with challenges.
Who decides whether something is acceptable or should be rejected? While acceptance is the desired choice, rejection comes in many forms.
The root of rejection affects your perception. Former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich’s corruption retrial is slowly coming to a close. After spending 7 days on the stand defending himself, Blagojevich will soon find out his future, guilty or innocent. Facing several counts of wire fraud, attempted extortion and bribery, Blagojevich continues his claims of innocence. Was his defense claims accepted or rejected? The jury will decide.
Why compromise? New York Rep. Anthony Weiner admitted to sending lewd photos of himself on social media to several women. With the recent announcement he and his wife are expecting their first child. His career is now under ethics investigation. Is his behavior accepted or rejected, who will decide?
Everyone has core fears. Understanding these fears uncovers the wounds buried deep inside the heart.
Sugar Ray Leonard just released a new book, “The Big Fight,” in which he describes being abused as a teenager by a trusted coach. Later in life another attempt of abuse occurred. He kept it silent. When his fighting career ended, he turned to alcohol and cocaine. His demons haunted him. Accepted or rejected, today he is telling his story.
Know your worth, your value in Christ. God has a plan for your life.
Meredith Vieira said her farewell after 5 years as co-anchor on the Today Show. The whole set joined with Journey’s song, “Don’t Stop Believin’” playing. The crew ran through the production office while individuals escorted Meredith along, like a relay race. The tribute run led her outside to Rockefeller Plaza with a flash mob performance including Jimmy Fallon. While everyone gave her hugs, Meredith was swept up in emotions as they wished her well. Accepted or rejected, this one’s obvious.
When you’re accepted, everyone is your friend, but when you’re rejected, you stand accused. Holding those thoughts captive will influence behavior. There is a penalty for sin, but God’s promise is sincere.
It takes positive reflection and sincere determination to move beyond fear. Having been predestined according to His plan, all people are acceptable to God. He sees the heart and knows all.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” – Jeremiah 29:11-13
