Monday night, Scottsdalefans will watch as ABC’s The Bachelorette 2011 Ashley Hebert hands out her final rose. After a rocky start, the field has been whittled down to just JP Rosenbaum and Ben Flajnik. Many viewers fell for Rosenbaum the moment he first spoke to Ashley, and “TeamCupcake” fans are sure he’ll get Ashley’s final rose. Newsday.com has the inside scoop on this Long Island native, and Saturday they posted a new article with some telling tidbits from those who have known him for years.
JP attended HerricksHigh School, where he graduated in 1995 and was voted “best looking” in his class. He played lacrosse from 6th through 12th grade, and made his all-conference high-school lacrosse squad his senior year. Doug Greco, who played lacrosse alongside Rosenbaum, says, “You can’t get any nicer than JP. We were really good friends, especially the first few years of high school. We reconnected on Facebook about a year ago.” Greco jokes that he’s ready to invite Ashley and JP over for an engagement barbecue after the show finishes airing.
Eric Welles lived in Rosenbaum’s neighborhood and played hockey with JP and other area kids after school. Welles says Rosenbaum is a “good dude,” and reminisces about hanging out with the older kids on the block. He shares, “I was the young kid who played goalie and I looked up to the older guys – mostly JP… I think it’s hysterical that he is on the show.”
Amy Singer has known JP since he was a preschooler, and definitely roots for him to get that last rose. She shares, “JP is a sweetheart. He has a lovely family.” Does Singer see Ashley and JP as a good fit? “Ashley seems like a smart girl. If she picked JP, then she made a great choice. I have known JP’s family forever. Ashley would be so lucky to get in-laws like that!” Fans loved the hometown date that showed JP’s parents, Ilene and Peter, his brother Roy and Roy’s girlfriend Andrea.
These days, it is common for the tabloids to dig up plenty of dirt on The Bachelor/Bachelorette personalities, and this season has been no exception. The intense media scrutiny is even said to have played a hand in the split between The Bachelor couple Brad Womack and Emily Maynard, and fans hope that Ashley and JP will be able to weather the storm. For those fans that have stood by “TeamCupcake” since the premiere in May, it’s refreshing to see friends and acquaintances come out to support their hometown guy.
